Low-Threshold: Every puzzle begins with simple computation or intuitive manipulation that any student can start immediately (e.g., adding numbers in a row, reading numbers in sequence, identifying basic digits). This reduces anxiety and encourages immediate participation.
High-Ceiling: The complexity emerges from overlapping logic constraints and the need to generalize algebraic patterns. Advanced thinkers will be challenged to build deductive proofs, find general equations, or prove that only one unique configuration works.

Phase 2: The Three Code Rooms
10-45 Min
Puzzle 1 (The Grid Lock): Groups must complete the number square. Low threshold: placing small integers. High ceiling: algebraically proving the sum relationship.
Puzzle 2 (The Cryptic Chain): Sequence mapping. Low threshold: finding subsequent integers. High ceiling: writing the recursive and explicit rules for a non-linear series.
Puzzle 3 (The Locker Lock): Deductive number theory logic. Students narrow a 3-digit combination based on inequality, factors, primes, and division properties.

Phase 3: The Cryptic Debrief
45-60 Min
Have groups complete the reflection on Page 2 of their Cipher Log. Conduct a whole-class debrief focusing on how groups managed moments of struggle. Highlight key teamwork practices observed during gameplay.

Every row, column, and diagonal must add up to the Target Code .

The encryption sequence is growing exponentially. To generate the override keys, your group must identify the underlying recursive rule of the sequence.

Apply the mathematical operator to find the 6th and 7th elements.

In your Cipher Log, you must not only identify the numbers, but also formalize the rule. Find the link:
