Lesson: Number Ninjas (1-10 Counting)

Learning Objectives
- Identify numerals 1 through 10.
- Demonstrate 1-to-1 correspondence by touching objects while counting.
- Represent a number by gathering a set of physical manipulatives.
- Match a set of items to its corresponding numeral.
Materials Needed
- Physical manipulatives (blocks, beads, or "ninja stars" made of cardstock).
- "Ninja Numbers Slides" presentation.
- "Snack Attack" Cut and Paste Worksheet.
- Scissors and glue sticks.
Instructional Steps

The Ninja Bow (Warm-Up)
Gather students on the rug. Lead them in a slow "ninja bow" while counting to 10. Repeat, but this time have them hop 10 times, counting each landing aloud to establish rhythm and 1-to-1 connection between movement and number.

Mastering the Scroll (Guided Practice)
Display the Ninja Numbers Slides. For each number, show the numeral and have students hold up that many fingers. Use the slides to practice counting objects (sushi, stars) by pointing to each one on the screen as a class.

Manipulative Training
Give each student a small container of manipulatives. Call out a number (or show a numeral card). Students must create a "formation" of that many items on their desk. Circulate to ensure they are touching each item as they count (1-to-1 correspondence).

Snack Attack (Assessment)
Hand out the Snack Attack Cut and Paste Worksheet. Students will count the food sets, cut them out, and glue them into the box next to the matching ninja numeral. Encourage them to mark each item with a dot as they count it to prevent skipping.
Sensei's Secrets (Differentiation)
Support
Focus only on numbers 1-5. Provide a "counting mat" with pre-drawn circles for manipulatives to be placed inside.
Extension
Ask students to compare two sets: "Which ninja has more snacks?" Challenge them to count backwards from 10 during the warm-up.
