Warm-Up: Whole or Part?

Teacher uses the "Whole vs. Fraction Flashcards" to gauge prior knowledge.
Display a card showing either a full shape or a divided shape.
Students shout "WHOLE!" or "FRACTION!" in unison.
Briefly ask: "How do we know it's a fraction?" (It's a part of a whole).

Watch "Fractions Practice | Homeschool Pop Math" . Assign one "buzzer" player per table for the quiz section.
Key Pause Points:
1:14: Pause to repeat "Numerator" and "Denominator."
3:50: Discuss the "North Dakota" trick (N over D).
4:48 onwards (Quiz Time): Pause before the answer is revealed for each question. The first table to "buzz" gets to answer.

Students look for items that are parts of a set or parts of a single whole.
Examples: 3/6 window panes are open; 2/4 chairs at a table are blue.Walk around to facilitate and check for equal parts (ensure denominators are 2, 3, 4, 5, or 8).

Misconception Watch:
Watch for students who think the denominator is the number of remaining pieces rather than the total number of pieces. Remind them of the "North Dakota" rule: Denominator is the "Down" number showing the whole split.
