Week 1: Double Digits & Deep Seas
Key Concept: Skip-counting by 10s is the foundation for place value and counting dimes. Help him notice that when we count by 10s (10, 20, 30...), the "tens" digit increases by 1 while the "ones" digit stays at 0.
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Addition Splash." Pick cards, add the numbers. Highest sum wins a point!
Week 2: Coral Reef Counting
Key Concept: Counting by 5s is useful for reading analog clocks and counting nickels. Have him physically count fingers on hands (each hand has 5) as you skip-count together.
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Coin Match-Up." Show actual nickels and pennies. Ask him to place cards on correct piles of real money.
Week 3: Shipwreck Sums
Key Concept: Addition with "doubles" (6+6=12, 7+7=14) helps kids do quick mental math by seeing near-doubles (6+7 is just 6+6 + 1!). Encourage him to learn these anchors.
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Doubles Duel." Flip a card, double it as fast as possible. Whoever shouts the correct double first wins!
Week 4: Treasure Map Tens
Key Concept: Place value is the secret sauce for double-digit addition. Practice saying "34 is 3 tens and 4 ones." Use sticks or Lego piles of 10 to build these numbers physically.
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Tens-Frame Race." Use the card deck visual tens-frame cards to see number bonds of 10 instantly.
Week 5: Pirate Pocket Change
Key Concept: Greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=). Teach him that the "gator" always eats the bigger number (e.g., 24 < 42). Compare physical objects in your hand first.
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Greater Gator War." Deal cards, each flip one, and place the correct Gator comparison card between them.
Praise Strategy: Instead of "You are so smart," say "I love how hard you tried to figure that out!" Emphasizing effort builds a growth mindset.

Week 7: Sandy Shore Subtraction
Key Concept: Finding missing addends (e.g., 8 + __ = 12). Help him relate this directly to subtraction: "If 12 minus 8 is 4, then 8 plus 4 must be 12."
Wednesday Game Note: Play "Missing Treasure." Hide some counters under a cup and have him guess how many are hidden based on the total.
Week 8: Coconut Word Problems
Key Concept: Drawing math. When solving word problems, encourage him to draw circles, tally marks, or write a simple equation so he can visualize the story before trying to calculate.
