Flash a ten-frame card for 2 seconds. Ask: "How many dots did you see? How did you know without counting by ones?" Reinforce recognizing 5 on the top row immediately (subitizing benchmark).
2. Direct Exploration: Missing Dots (12 Mins) Slides 3–4
Present 7 dots on the board. Prompt students to notice the empty spaces. Guide the math sentence: "7 dots plus 3 empty boxes makes the whole frame full (10)." Model turnaround pairs (e.g., 6+4 and 4+6).
3. Independent Practice: Frame Builder (15 Mins) Student Worksheet
