Why New York City & My Ideal School Community
Teaching in New York City is a purposeful commitment to educational equity and the power of student diversity. I am seeking a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining school community that embraces students' diverse backgrounds and languages as essential resources. In mathematics, this means breaking the stereotype that math is abstract and culturally detached. I construct an anti-bias math curriculum using real-world data—such as local transit patterns or neighborhood economic modeling—to prove that mathematics is a practical tool for community empowerment. I seek a collaborative community school that values restorative justice and believes every student is capable of rigorous quantitative inquiry.
Strengths, Experiences, & Contributions to Student Outcomes
My background in Pure and Applied Mathematics allows me to bridge abstract concepts with tangible engineering and statistical applications. Through hands-on Project-Based Learning (PBL), my students engage in collaborative problem-solving tasks, such as modeling city infrastructure or analyzing statistical distributions. This applied methodology deepens conceptual understanding, raises active student engagement, and builds the problem-solving resilience needed for success on state assessments.
Furthermore, my training equips me with concrete strategies for integrated ICT classrooms and English Language Learners (ELLs). I deploy scaffolded task sheets, visual dual-language vocabulary systems, and parallel co-teaching methods. This systematic scaffolding lowers the cognitive barriers of complex math terms without diluting mathematical rigor, closing achievement gaps and ensuring all learners find success.
Subject Preferences & Candidacy Vision
My preferred placement is High School Mathematics (Grades 9–12), specifically Algebra I, Geometry, or AP Calculus. These transition years are critical for shaping students' mathematical self-confidence. I am passionate about eradicating math anxiety through structured peer dialogue and multiple pathways of representation. As an early-career educator, I bring a growth mindset, proficiency with modern learning technology, and a commitment to mentorship. I am eager to contribute to your school's professional learning communities and lead after-school programs like Math Circles or coding clubs to support your student community.
