Distribute the Slide Squad Worksheet . Instead of asking for similarities, have students trace the first triangle and physically slide it over the second. Ask: "Did it change size? Did it turn?"

Topic: Geometric Translations (Slides)
1. What is a Translation?
A translation (often called a "slide") is a type of rigid motion that moves every point of a figure the same distance and in the same direction.
Pre-Image: The original shape (labeled A, B, C).
Image: The new shape after the slide (labeled A', B', C' with "prime" marks).
Rigid Motion: The shape stays the same size and same shape. It does not rotate or flip.
2. The Coordinate Rule
To move a point mathematically, we use a rule that looks like this:
(x, y) → (x + a, y + b)
Where "a" is the horizontal shift and "b" is the vertical shift.
3. Direction Guide

4. Key Properties to Remember
Congruence: The pre-image and image are congruent (identical in size and shape).
Orientation: The shape's orientation does not change. If the triangle was pointing up before, it is still pointing up after the translation.
Parallelism: The segments connecting the corresponding vertices are parallel and equal in length.
