Students will be able to evaluate how quantitative data (bar graphs and line charts) supports a speaker's oral claim about video game popularity.

Level 1: The Hook (Warm-Up)
Ask students: "What is your favorite video game?" and "How do you know it is popular?" Encourage them to use words like everyone , many players , or top charts . Introduce the concept that "Claims" need "Data" to be proven true.

Level 2: Scanning the Data (Direct Instruction)
Present the Visual Vocabulary Cards : Claim, Data, Evidence, Support . Use the slides to model how to read a bar chart. Show a claim: "Minecraft is the most played game." Then look at the bar chart to see if the tallest bar matches the claim. ESL Support: Use sentence frames: "The speaker says _____. The graph shows _____. This (supports / does not support) the claim."

Level 3: Detective Training (Guided Practice)
Teacher acts as a "Gamer Pro" and makes a claim: "Gaming is more popular today than it was 5 years ago." Display the Line Graph showing hours played per week. As a class, fill out the first row of the Data Detective's Log . Focus on identifying the X and Y axes and finding the specific numbers that prove the point.

Level 4: Solo Mission (Independent Practice)
Students use the Data Detective's Log to evaluate two more claims provided in the slides:
Claim A: "Mobile games are played more than PC games." (Bar Graph)
Claim B: "The number of professional gamers is decreasing." (Line Graph)
Teacher circulates to assist with vocabulary and interpreting graph trends.

Boss Level: Verification (Exit Ticket)
Students complete the Power-Up Exit Ticket . They must look at one final graph, identify the claim, and explain using at least one piece of quantitative evidence (a number or a trend) why the data supports or refutes the claim.
Differentiation Strategies
For Emerging Learners (Level 1-2):
Provide a version of the organizer with circle-the-answer options for "Supports / Does Not Support" and pre-highlighted key areas of the graphs.
For Advanced Learners:
Ask students to create their own claim based on a graph and "challenge" a partner to find the evidence that supports it.
