Lesson Script
Hook (5-7 mins)
Teacher: "Shhh... binoculars ready! Today we're Bird Watchers. We'll help birds find their spots on the wires, but we must count carefully!"
Teacher: "Use your 'Magic Pointer Finger.' Touch each bird only once. Let's practice counting my fingers together: 1... 2... 3... 4... 5."
Modeling (10 mins)
Teacher: "Look at the screen. Watch me count: One (touch), Two (touch), Three (touch). Why did I touch? To make sure I didn't skip any or count twice!"
Guided Practice (15 mins)
Activity: Perch and Paste. Students glue the correct number of birds on each wire based on the number box.
Teacher: "Glue exactly as many birds as the box says. Slow down—one touch, one number!"
Independent Practice (10 mins)
Worksheet: Nest Numbers. Students count birds on wires and write the numeral, then draw birds to match numerals.
Differentiation
Support
Use physical counters. Focus on numbers 1-5. Model counting twice to verify the total quantity.
Extension
Introduce n-1. "If one bird flies away, how many are left?" Draw more complex wires up to 15.
Closure (3 mins)
"What's our counting secret? Yes—touch each one! Field report finished for today. Great job, Bird Watchers!"
