"Friends, let's get our counting fingers ready! We're going to count to ten together. One finger... two fingers..."
2. Viewing: Bird Song Video (10 min)
Introduce the video. Tell students to keep their "eagle eyes" open for birds to count.
Pause at 0:08
Count the multi-colored birds sitting on the wire together. Point to each bird.
Pause at 0:16
Count the flying purple birds. Watch how they move together in a flock!
Critical: Pause at 0:40
The eggs have hatched! How many baby birds are in the nest? (1, 2, 3)
3. Activity: Bird on a Wire (15 min)
Draw a long line across the whiteboard to represent a "telephone wire."
- Call a student to the board: "Draw 4 birds on the wire."
- Ask the class to count them aloud as they are drawn.
- Ask: "What happens if one more bird flies down?"
- Have the student draw one more bird.
- Recount the total (5). Repeat with different starting numbers.
4. Closure & Exit Ticket (5 min)
Pass out the Nest Number Exit Ticket. Remind students of the baby birds that popped out of the eggs in the video.
