Mission Objective
Detectives will identify quadrilaterals based on limited visual clues (ticks and arrows) and property descriptions. By the end of the session, students will be able to distinguish between trapezoids, parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, and squares using their unique geometric properties.

Phase 1: I Spy Geometry
Looking for shapes in the field.
Instruct students to look around the room for one quadrilateral. They must describe it to a partner using only properties (e.g., "I see a shape with 4 right angles and 2 pairs of parallel sides") without naming the object itself.
05-15 MIN
Phase 2: Muted Surveillance
Analyzing visual markings from the surveillance footage.
Play video (0:00-3:41) MUTED. Students watch markings (red ticks, blue arrows, red squares) and property highlights.
Trapezoid (0:30): 1 pair parallel sides.
Parallelogram (1:02): 2 pairs parallel & congruent opp. sides.
Rectangle (1:40): 4 right angles.
Rhombus (2:24): 4 congruent sides & perp. diagonals.
Square (3:05): All previous + 4 right angles.

Phase 3: Case Files Activity
Solving the identity of unknown figures.
Students use the Case Files Worksheet to match descriptions to shapes and draw them. Encourage them to use the same color coding seen in the video (red for ticks, blue for arrows).

Phase 4: Missing Angle Application
Using the Angle Sum Property (360°).
Unmute the video and proceed to the math problems (3:41-7:24). Pause at 3:41 and 5:32 for students to solve the calculation problems independently before the video reveals the steps.

Critical Discussion Anchors
Hierarchy: Is a square always a rhombus? (Yes, it meets all requirements). Is a rhombus always a square? (No, it lacks the 90° requirement).
Ambiguity: If a case only mentioned "4 equal sides," why would "Rhombus" be a better answer than "Square"? (Because we can't assume right angles unless stated).
