Preparation
- Review the Multiply It Up! Slide Deck for clarity.
- Gather counting objects (blocks, toy cars, fruit) - 20 per student.
- Print the Multiplication Practice Worksheet.
- Set up projector/whiteboard and review the Multiply It Up! Script.
Instructional Steps

Warm-Up: Count and Group (3 mins)
Display the Count and Group Warm-Up on the board.
- Guide students to count groups and items within each group.
- Connect activity to the idea of "groups of" as a precursor to multiplication.

Introduction to Multiplication (5 mins)
Use the Slide Deck (Slides 1-5).
- Emphasize multiplication as "repeated addition."
- Use the provided script for simple, clear language.
- Focus on the "x" symbol meaning "groups of."

"Good morning, everyone! Let's start with a quick counting game. Look at the pictures on the board. We need to find the groups and how many things are in each group."
(Point to Example 1: Apples)
"Look at the apples. How many groups of apples do you see? Point to them or tell me the number!"
... Wait for response ...
"Great! There are 3 groups. Now, how many apples are in each group? Count them!"
... Wait for response ...
"Exactly! 2 apples in each group. If we count all the apples together, how many do we have?"
... Wait for response ...
"That's right, 6 apples total! We have 3 groups of 2 apples, and that makes 6."
(Repeat for Example 2 and 3)
"You all did a fantastic job! Today, we're learning a super fast way to count when we have many groups with the same number. It's called multiplication!"

"Take a look! Our lesson is 'Multiply It Up!' Multiplication is just a fast way to count groups. It helps us figure out big numbers quickly!"

"Remember the apples? We had 3 groups. When we multiply, we look for groups where each group has the same amount."
(Point to cookies) "How many groups do you see? And how many in each group?"
(Slide 4: Multiplication: The Fast Way!)
"Instead of writing 2 + 2 + 2 = 6, we use this symbol: 'x'. This 'x' means 'groups of'. So, 3 groups of 2 becomes 3 x 2. And it still equals 6!"
