Architect's Mission
The Objective
As a Master Architect, your job is to complete the structural designs of squares and rectangles across the coordinate grid.
The Challenge
Construction sites are missing their final corner vertex. You must calculate and plot the exact coordinates to finish the job.

The horizontal line. Run before you jump!
y Y-Axis
The vertical line. Reach for the sky!
Ordered Pairs
Written as (x, y). Always in alphabetical order.
Structural Integrity
Parallel & Perpendicular
Sides of rectangles are either horizontal or vertical. They meet at 90° angles.
Matching Lengths
Opposite sides must be the same length. For squares, all four sides are equal!
Coordinate Clues
Points on the same vertical line share an x-coordinate. Points on the same horizontal line share a y-coordinate.

x = 6
Finding the Missing Corner

Pair Up X
The missing point must have the same x-coordinate as the corner directly above or below it.

Pair Up Y
The missing point must have the same y-coordinate as the corner directly to its left or right.

Final Check
Verify your new point completes the rectangle. Check the lengths of the parallel sides!
FIELD TEST 01
Quadrant I Rectangle
A blueprint shows three vertices of a rectangle:
- A (2, 7)
- B (8, 7)
- C (8, 3)
- D (?, ?)
Detective Logic:
1. Points B and C share x = 8. Point A has x = 2. So D must have x = 2.
2. Points A and B share y = 7. Point C has y = 3. So D must have y = 3.
Solution: (2, 3)
FIELD TEST 02
Crossing the Axes
This square crosses the y-axis:
- 1 (-4, 5)
- 2 (2, 5)
- 3 (2, -1)
- 4 (?, ?)
Calculation Check:
The x-distance between (-4) and (2) is 6 units.
The y-distance between (5) and (-1) is 6 units.
Since it's a square, all sides must be 6!
Missing Vertex: (-4, -1)
Structural Hazards
The "Flip-Flop"
Writing coordinates as (y, x) instead of (x, y). This puts your building in the wrong neighborhood!
Error: (Up 3, Over 4) → (3, 4)
Correct: (Over 4, Up 3) → (4, 3)
Sign Sabotage
Forgetting the negative signs in Quadrants II, III, or IV. Every sign matters in a blueprint!
Check: Left = Negative X
Check: Down = Negative Y
Architect's Checklist

Identify which coordinates the missing point must share with its neighbors.

Calculate distances between points to ensure side lengths are equal.
3
Double-check negative/positive signs based on the Quadrant.
4
Label your final ordered pair clearly as (x, y).
