Warm-Up: Lock the Jar (TPR)
10 Mins
Hook: Put 5 red cubes in a jar. Screw the lid on. Write "5" on the jar.
Action: Tell students: "The 5 are safe inside. No need to count them again! Tap your chest: Lock 5!" (Students do TPR movement). Hold up 3 more cubes outside the jar. Tap them to count on: "6, 7, 8!"
2
Guided Input: Giant Ten Frames
15 Mins
Project the Jump Ahead Slides . Keep focus on numbers under 20:
Full Ten Frame: Point and say: "We see a full frame. It is 10. Lock 10!"
Counting On: Point to extra dots. Lead the choral repetition: "Lock 10... Jump: 11, 12, 13!" Use finger-pointing illustrations.
3
Guided Practice: Lilypad Leap Game
15 Mins
Pair students. Distribute the Jump Ahead Center Kit . Students draw a starting number (e.g., 8), place their frog on that number on their Bilingual Track, and roll the dice to count forward 1, 2, or 3 spaces.
Language Goal: Direct peer helpers to verify with physical thumbs-up/down if their partner counts on accurately.

1. Hand Tapping & Physical Jumps:
K students benefit from full body movement. Have them take physical jumps forward on a taped classroom floor track to count on from a number.
2. Simple Sentence Frame:
Provide bilingual support cards. Phrase:
"Guardo 8... ¡Salto: 9, 10!"
3. Teen Number Decade Visuals:
Remind students of teen number transition sounds (eleven, twelve, thirteen). Highlight these numbers with visual blocks.
Common K Misconceptions
Restarting at 1: Pointing at 8 but saying "1, 2, 3..." to count up.
Remedy: Use a "stop sign" cutout to block all numbers smaller than the starting point on their tracks.
Teen Name Confusion: Students skip "eleven" or say "ten-one".
Remedy: Choral speak the teen name cards with finger visual support.
Differentiation Pathways
Entering / Level 1
