FACILITATION GUIDE
A gamified retro-arcade lesson designed to reinforce rapid 6th-grade basic operations, exponent rules, and simple order of operations in an active bingo format.
OBJECTIVE & ALIGNMENT
Students build automaticity with 6th-grade multi-step equations including parentheses, basic operations, and integer exponents (e.g., \( 2^3, 3^2, 4^3 \)). CCSS STANDARDS: 6.EE.A.1, 6.EE.A.2.C
THEMED GAMEPLAY
Students act as "System Debuggers" trying to solve the glitches. The custom number pool strategy eliminates card preparation and guarantees student agency and ownership.
STEP-BY-STEP GAMEFLOW

Boot up: Pass out the Glitch Grid Student Board. Instruct students to write name and date. Show Slide 1 to establish the retro-arcade theme and active tone.

Configure Codes: Show Slide 2. Give students 3 minutes to load their bingo board. They write exactly 5 numbers from each pool (B, I, N, G, O) into the corresponding letters. No duplicated numbers are allowed within columns.

Solve & Call: Advance through Calling Slides. Give students 30-45 seconds per slide to solve. Remind them to show calculations inside the white Scratchpad Sectors.

Verify Debugs: When a student claims a row, column, or diagonal "BINGO!", they must read out their winning solutions. Verify their scratchpad work against the Master Tracker on Page 2.
MISCONCEPTIONS
- Exponents: Students multiplying bases by exponents (e.g., solving \( 2^3 \) as \( 6 \) instead of \( 8 \)). Point out that \( 2^3 = 2 \times 2 \times 2 = 8 \).
- Order of Ops: Forgetting to perform multiplication/division before addition/subtraction (e.g., on \( 50 - 4 \times 3 \)).
DIFFERENTIATION
- Support: Allow struggling students to use a personal reference card or multiplication table for single digit products.
- Extension: Challenge early finishers to write a brand new algebraic "glitch equation" that evaluates to a number left on their board.
