Tactical Insight: Outliers
Why is the IQR usually more reliable than the Range when a data set has extreme values (outliers)?
The IQR only looks at the middle 50% of the data, so it completely ignores extreme outliers at the far ends. The Range is calculated using the highest and lowest values, so just one outlier can significantly change the result.
