APPETIZER
The "Wait-a-Minute" Warm-Up (10 mins)
Scenario: You are at a pizza party with 8 friends. If the pizza is cut into 8 slices, what fraction does each person get? What if only 4 people showed up?
Discussion: Use the slide deck to show a whole pizza and demonstrate cutting it. Ask students: "Does a larger denominator mean a bigger or smaller slice?"
MAIN COURSE
Chef's Special: Modeling Fractions (20 mins)
1. Comparison Cook-Off
Show two pizzas: one cut into 4ths and one into 6ths. Ask: "Would you rather have 1/4 of a pizza or 1/6?" Physically overlap the paper models to prove 1/4 is larger.
2. The Chocolate Bar Addition
Use chocolate bars (12 segments). Show \( \frac{2}{12} + \frac{3}{12} \). Demonstrate that we are adding the "pieces" (numerators) while the "size of the pieces" (denominators) stays the same.
SIDE DISHES
"Recipe Repair" Guided Practice (15 mins)
Students work in pairs to "fix" a Chef's messy recipe. They will need to:
Calculate the total amount of flour used (\( \frac{1}{4} + \frac{2}{4} \)).
Find the difference between sugar and salt measurements.
Shade "Measuring Cup" models to prove their answers.
Teacher Tip: Watch for students who try to add the denominators. Remind them: "The pan size doesn't change, only the ingredients inside!"

Distribute the "Chef Training" Worksheet. This serves as an informal assessment.
Differentiation:
Scaffolding: Provide pre-divided fraction circles for students to color in.
