Ratio Order Matters
Students often swap the numerator and denominator in unit rate problems. Emphasize "Y per X" vocabulary and labeling every step.
Absolute Value Distance
Remind students that absolute value |-8| is always positive distance. Even though -8 is less than 2, its distance from zero is greater.
Triangle Area Error
The most common error is forgetting to multiply by 1/2. Relate it to "half of a rectangle" to make the concept stick.
Statistical Questions
Students struggle with variability. Contrast "What is my height?" (Not statistical) with "What are the heights of 6th graders?" (Statistical).
