Upper Elementary Physical Education • Cooperative Challenges
Station Set A
Grades 3–5 • 4–6 Players
STATION 01
Lava River Crossing
Focus: Cooperative Planning, Spatial Strategy & Balance
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • 4–5 Poly spots or foam pads
- • 2 Cones (Start & Finish line)
- • 25-foot "River" zone
Rule: Spots must have constant physical contact once placed!
Mission & Rules
- The floor is molten lava. All team members must cross from Start to Finish.
- Players can only step on poly spots ("stepping stones").
- If a poly spot has no foot on it, it "melts" and the teacher takes it away!
- If any teammate touches the floor, the whole team resets to the start line.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
Level Up: One player is silent and can only use hand gestures.
Pro Mode: Remove one stepping stone mid-river!

STATION 02
Pipeline Express
Focus: Active Rotation, Verbal Synchronization & Precision
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • 1 Half-pipe track per student
- • 1 Tennis ball or ping pong ball
- • 1 Target bucket at finish line
Track: Cut pool noodles or PVC gutters work best!
Mission & Rules
- Transport the rolling ball from start to bucket without touching it.
- Players cannot run while the ball is inside their pipe segment.
- Once the ball leaves your pipe, sprint to the front of the line to extend the track.
- If the ball drops or rolls backward, restart from the launch line.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
Speed Trial: Complete the 30-foot track in under 45 seconds.
Obstacle Run: Steer the pipeline around 3 agility cones.

STATION 03
Minefield Navigator
Focus: Trust Building, Precise Vocabulary & Active Listening
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • 2 Blindfolds / Sleep masks
- • 15–20 Foam balls, pins, cones
- • 20x20 ft Marked Grid Area
Safety: Navigators walk slowly; guides stand outside perimeter!
Mission & Rules
- Scatter obstacles ("mines") across the grid zone.
- One blindfolded player enters; teammates stand along perimeter to guide.
- Guides give clear directional cues (e.g., "Take two baby steps left, pause").
- No touching the blindfolded player. If a mine is nudged, reset to entrance.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
One-Voice Rule: Only one appointed guide can talk at a time.
Object Retrieval: Pick up a beanbag before exiting!

STATION 04
Hoop Pulse Circuit
Focus: Agility, Kinesthetic Cooperation & Pacing
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • 2 Standard 30–36" Hula hoops
- • 1 Stopwatch or digital timer
- • Open circle floor space
Key Rule: Clasped hands must NEVER break apart!
Mission & Rules
- Entire team forms a circle holding hands tightly.
- Place a hula hoop resting across the joined arms of two players.
- Move the hoop around the full circle using body flexibility and team movement.
- If hands unlock, the hoop resets to the starting player.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
Double Trouble: Send two hoops in opposite directions simultaneously!
Beat the Clock: Complete 2 full loops in under 60 seconds.

Grades 3–5 • 4–6 Players
STATION 05
Tarp Turnover Matrix
Focus: Collective Balance, Weight Shifting & Shared Space Planning
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • 1 Small tarp (approx 5x7 ft) or bedsheet
- • Non-slip gym flooring surface
- • All team members on top
Condition: If anyone touches gym floor, flip resets!
Mission & Rules
- Entire team stands together on the flat unfolded tarp.
- Flip the tarp completely upside-down so the reverse side is facing up.
- No player can step off the tarp or touch any part of the floor with shoes or body.
- Team members must shuffle, balance on one foot, or support each other during folds.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
Shrinking Island: Fold the tarp in half once flipped and balance 10s!
Quiet Zone: Complete the entire turnover with zero verbal noise.

STATION 06
Human Knot Escape
Focus: Problem Solving, Patience, Gentle Movement & Leadership
8–10 MIN
Setup & Gear
- • Zero equipment needed
- • 6–8 Students per knot group
- • Open circle on gym mats
Safety: Move slowly! Never pull hard on classmates' arms or wrists.
Mission & Rules
- Stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a close circle. Reach right hand across to grab another student's hand.
- Reach left hand across to grab a DIFFERENT person's hand (not person next to you).
- Without letting go of grips, untangle into one complete outward/inward facing circle.
- Step over, duck under, or pivot gently as a unit.
⚡ Tactical Challenge Variations:
Laser Focus: Only 1 navigator can give directions while others execute.
Wrist-Band Hold: Hold short ribbons if hand-holding is difficult.
