SOFT TOUCHES
Gentle Tags Keep the Game Fun!
Feather Light
A tag should feel like a butterfly wing or a feather landing. No pushing, slapping, or grabbing!
Safe Zones Only
Only tag classmates on the shoulder or upper back. Never tag the face, neck, chest, or stomach!
Instant Respect
If you tag someone, say "Tag, nice try!" If you are tagged, say "Nice job!" and follow the game reset.
PLAY. LEARN. GROW.

HANDS TO SELF
Protect Your Personal Bubble!
Transitions & Lines
When entering the gym, standing in lines, or waiting for cues, keep your hands folded, in your pockets, or at your sides.
The "Bubble" Rule
Every athlete has a personal space "bubble." Do not enter another classmate's bubble unless the activity explicitly requires it.
Consent & Safety
No wrestling, tackling, horseplay, or friendly grabbing. We show respect by keeping our physical distance and staying in control.
BE STRONG. BE KIND. BE YOU.

Rule Number 3 PLAY SAFE
What is Body Control?
It means keeping your hands, feet, and equipment safe in our gym space at all times.
Look where you are running!
Be ready to stop and change direction.
Never run into walls or gym boundaries.
SLIDE 2 OF 6
Our Spaces PERSONAL BUBBLE
Your Personal Bubble
Imagine a soft, safe air bubble completely surrounding your body. When we move in the gym, our bubbles should never touch!
STAND
Spread your arms wide. That is your safety zone!
MOVE
Run in curves and open lanes. Avoid crowds.
CHECK
If you get too close to a teammate, step back!
SLIDE 3 OF 6
Tag Protocols SOFT TOUCHES ONLY
What is a Soft Touch?
In games like tag, we ONLY use feather-light touches. No pushing, hitting, or slapping!
WHERE?
On the shoulder or upper back only.
HOW?
Use two fingers. Touch gently like a butterfly.
WHAT?
Never tag the face, chest, or stomach!
SLIDE 4 OF 6
Active Lines HANDS TO SELF
When do we use Hands to Self?
Entering and exiting class
Standing in gym lines
Listening to the coach
Keep Your Bubble Safe
Keep your hands on your hips, in your pockets, or folded when waiting. Friendly wrestlers are safe, but gym space is for safe movement!

Daily Checklist THE ATHLETE TEST
Before you leave, check your performance!
Did I show respect to everyone?
Did I play safely today?
Did I give my absolute best effort?
Did I keep my hands to myself?
If you said YES, you had a successful day!

Safety Space Lesson Bundle Teacher Facilitation Guide
Week 1 Safety Lesson Plan
Unit: Foundations
Focus Areas
• Safe space navigation
• "Soft Touches" tag boundaries
• "Hands to Self" during transition times
Student Objectives
Students will be able to travel safely throughout the gym without popping personal space bubbles and demonstrate correct soft tags.
Part 1: "Ready to Play" Routine (10 Mins)
Line up students at the gym door. Explain that before entering, we must protect our personal bubbles and check our body control.
Teacher script & cue:
"Athletes, standing in lines or listening is when we keep our hands to ourselves. To show you are ready, lock eyes with me. Athletes, get ready! "
Expected Student Response:
"Ready to learn!" (Students walk in calmly to their assigned spots).
Part 2: Defining Gym Space & Soft Touches (15 Mins)
Gather students on the center circle. Introduce the three core principles on your posters:
1. Play Safe
Watch speed, avoid walls, check surroundings constantly.
2. Soft Touches
Two fingers only, shoulder/upper back, feather-light.
3. Hands to Self
Hands on hips or sides in line. Respect other bubbles.
Demonstration: Invite a student leader. Demonstrate a "hard tag" (pushing) vs a "soft tag" (butterfly touch). Have students practice touching their own shoulders with two fingers to feel how light it is.
Grade Band Customization
Grades K-2: Focus purely on basic "Bubble Space" navigation. Use concrete imagery. Keep tag speeds down to a skip or fast walk.
Grades 3-5: Incorporate the Sportsmanship Formula and peer tracking. Emphasize self-regulation when games get competitive.

Active Safety Practice Games
Part 3: Games (20 Mins)
Game 1: Bubble Space Run Skill: Spatial Awareness
Setup: All students stand inside gym boundaries, spread apart. Each student spreads arms to define their "bubble space."
Play: On the whistle, students walk slowly (jog in later rounds) inside the gym boundaries. They must constantly move but cannot let their bubble touch anyone else's bubble!
Whistle Signal: If the teacher blows the whistle once, everyone freezes in place and immediately folds their hands (Hands to Self).
