The Mission (Instructions)
1
Briefing & Hook (5 mins)
Welcome students to "Fire Safety Training." Share a story about a "Fire Hero" (like a local firefighter) or a simple analogy: "Just like we wear helmets for bikes, we need a safety plan for fire."
2
Hazard Hunt Discussion (10 mins)
Discuss common fire causes: cooking, candles, overloaded outlets. Use the Discussion Guide.
"What's one thing in your kitchen that could be a fire hazard if we're not careful?"
3
Action Drill: Scenarios (15 mins)
Small groups receive Scenario Cards. They must "act out" or describe their escape plan. Encourage "Stay Low and Go!"
4
Safety Blueprint (10 mins)
Students complete the Fire Safety Worksheet individually or in pairs to cement their knowledge.
5
Final De-brief (5 mins)
Review: 1. Prevent, 2. Escape, 3. Tell an Adult. Homework: Check the smoke detector batteries at home tonight!

Fire Prevention Mission
Teacher Resource
"Today we're becoming Safety Detectives. Our job is to find hazards before they become fires and know exactly what to do if an alarm sounds."
What are some common causes of fire in the home?
Guiding Prompts:
- The Kitchen: Stove left on, towels near burners, grease.
- Electricity: Too many plugs in one outlet, frayed wires.
- Open Flames: Candles left alone, matches/lighters.
What can you do to prevent these fires?
Safety Actions:
- Create a "Kid-Free Zone" (3 feet from stove).
- "Don't Hide, Go Outside" - Fire drill readiness.
- Never play with matches or lighters. Tell an adult!
- Keep things that can burn away from heaters.
Safety Pro Tip:
Remind students that smoke detectors are "Ear Heroes"—they tell us when there is danger so we can move fast.
