A professional 6-week certification-style journey into Ayurveda. Each week features a comprehensive 2-hour 'Deep Dive Module' combining academic reading, interactive reflections, and knowledge checks, supported by practical 'Applied Healing' assignments (1-2 hours) for real-world integration.
The principle of cohesion. It is characterized by fluidity, coolness, and stability. It provides the lubrication for joints, the plasma for the blood, and the moisture for the skin. Mentally, it is compassion and emotional flow.

Earth (Prithvi)
The principle of structure. It is characterized by heaviness, hardness, and stability. It forms the bones, teeth, and muscles. Mentally, it is grounding, endurance, and reliability.
Knowledge Check: The Elemental Shift
Which element would be most effective for balancing a person who is feeling scattered, anxious, and physically cold? Why?
Air, because it matches their current state.
Fire, because it adds heat.
Earth, because it adds stability and weight.
Explain your reasoning below:
Part 3: The 20 Gunas (The Language of Qualities)
How do we know which elements are out of balance? We look at Gunas. Ayurveda uses 10 pairs of opposing qualities to describe everything in the material world. This is the diagnostic tool of the Ayurvedic practitioner.
Quality Pair
Physical Manifestation
Psychological Manifestation
Heavy / Light
Weight gain / Fasting, gas
Stability, lethargy / Alertness, anxiety
Cold / Hot
Poor circulation / Inflammation, thirst
Withdrawal / Passion, anger
Oily / Dry
Lubrication / Rough skin, constipation
Compassion / Solitude, isolation
Dull / Sharp
Sluggish metabolism / Intense focus
Calmness / Logic, irritability
Stable / Mobile
Endurance / Nervous movement
Rigidity / Adaptability, inconsistency
"Like increases like, and opposites balance."
Home Lab: The Guna Audit
Take 10 minutes to walk through your kitchen and find one item for each of the following Guna pairs. Describe the physical sensation of the item.
Item 1: Oily vs. Dry
Example: Avocado (Oily) vs. Dry Cracker (Dry)
Item 2: Heavy vs. Light
Item 3: Cold vs. Hot (Spicy)
Item 4: Dull vs. Sharp
Module Synthesis
Everything you encounter—food, weather, thoughts, work—has a Guna. By learning to identify these qualities, you become your own healer. If you feel "hot" (anger, heartburn), you look for "cold" (cooling herbs, calm environment). If you feel "heavy" (lethargy, sluggishness), you look for "light" (movement, fasting).
Final Module Check:
You have completed the reading for Module 1. Please ensure all reflection boxes are filled before proceeding to the Element Exploration Journal assignment.
Vata Imbalance
Need: Warmth, Oil, Grounding
Pitta Imbalance
Need: Cooling, Sweetness, Calm
Kapha Imbalance
Need: Warmth, Lightness, Spice
Key Insight
Remember: There is no "best" dosha. Health is simply living in accordance with your own unique proportions. A Kapha person trying to act like a Vata person will eventually become imbalanced.
Kapha
Physical Attributes
Large frame, sturdy bones, thick skin, slow digestion, deep sleep. Kapha people are like a mountain—steady, solid, and enduring. They struggle with heaviness and stagnation.
Psychological Attributes
Calm, patient, compassionate, loving. When imbalanced: lethargy, attachment, greed, and depression.
Part 3: The Goal of Ayurveda
We were all born with a unique proportion of these three doshas. This is our Prakriti—our constitutional baseline. It does not change throughout our life.
However, due to diet, stress, environment, and age, our doshas shift. This current state is our Vikriti.
The Ayurvedic Mission
"The entire purpose of Ayurveda is to manage the Vikriti and return the individual to their original Prakriti."
The Balance Equation
Vikriti → Prakriti
When we are in alignment with our birth nature, we thrive. When we drift too far, we develop disease.
Case Study: Identifying Imbalance
Client Profile: Sarah is a graphic designer who has been born with a Pitta-Kapha constitution (she is naturally athletic and steady). Lately, she has been working long hours under fluorescent lights, drinking 4 cups of coffee a day, and eating spicy takeout at midnight. She reports feeling highly irritable, having red skin rashes, and experiencing intense heartburn.
1. Which dosha is currently in a state of Vikriti (imbalance)?
2. Which qualities (Gunas) are being aggravated?
3. Suggest two "Opposite Action" remedies Sarah could take this week.
Module 2 Complete
You have analyzed the forces of the Doshas. Next, proceed to the Prakriti Discovery Workbook to map your own constitution.
Purisha (Feces)
The bulk of waste. Ideal consistency is that of a ripe banana. Floating indicates health; sinking indicates Ama.
Mutra (Urine)
The liquid waste. Clear to light yellow is ideal. Dark yellow or burning indicates excess Pitta.
Sweda (Sweat)
The waste of the fat tissue. It maintains body temperature and clears skin channels. Excess sweat = high Pitta.
Knowledge Check: Scenario Analysis
A student reports waking up with a very thick white coat on their tongue and feeling incredibly heavy and sleepy after a light breakfast of fruit and yogurt.
What is the most likely cause?
Suggest one immediate Ayurvedic remedy.
Module 3 Complete
You have mastered the mechanics of metabolic fire. Proceed to the Digestive Fire Tracker to begin your 3-day audit.
After nourishment has passed through all seven tissues, a refined essence remains. This is Ojas. It is the ultimate product of healthy digestion and a balanced life.
Signs of Strong Ojas
• Clear, luminous eyes and skin
• Exceptional immune resilience
• Natural state of joy and compassion
• Mental clarity and focus
Knowledge Check: Biological Audit
A person is struggling with extreme brittle nails, thinning hair, and frequent bone fractures. According to the Dhatu sequence, which tissue layer is likely being under-nourished?
Identify the Dhatu (1-7):
Suggest the upstream cause (Upstream Dhatu):
Module 4 Complete
You have mapped the biological architecture of the body. Proceed to the Tissue Vitality Worksheet to perform your own audit.
During the height of Summer (Pitta season), a person insists on doing hot yoga at noon followed by a lunch of spicy tacos and a margarita. Predict their symptoms by tomorrow morning.
Module 5 Complete
You have learned to dance with nature's clock. Proceed to the Sacred Routine Planner to build your practice.
