Performance Level Bands
Each mark equals 10% on the 100% grading scale
Tier 4 90–100%
Excellent Understanding
9–10 Marks
Consistently demonstrates mature biomechanics, fluid opposition, and soft-hand catching across all distances.
Tier 3 70–80%
Good Understanding
7–8 Marks
Shows proficient form and body control; steps with opposition and tracks incoming trajectory with minor inconsistencies.
Tier 2 50–60%
Developing Understanding
5–6 Marks
Grasps foundational concepts but lacks mechanical fluidity; occasionally traps against chest or steps with the same foot.
Tier 1 0–40%
Needs Further Practice
0–4 Marks
Needs targeted cues and confidence building; struggles with tracking flight path, arm extension, and safe ball reception.

Page 2: Rubric Details
Component A: Throwing (0–5 Marks) Weight: 50%
5 Marks (Mastery):
Fluid side-on stance, sharp opposition step, elbow above shoulder, complete follow-through across body. High accuracy (9–10/10 throws).
4 Marks (Proficient):
Steps with opposite foot consistently; good torso rotation; minor variance in release arc or accuracy (7–8/10 throws on target).
3 Marks (Developing):
Steps with opposition occasionally; limited hip rotation; pushes ball from shoulder. Fair accuracy (5–6/10 throws).
0–2 Marks (Needs Practice):
Same-foot step or static feet; no weight transfer; throws wide or erratic. Under 50% accuracy; needs modified ball.
Component B: Catching (0–5 Marks) Weight: 50%
5 Marks (Mastery):
Balanced athletic ready position; tracks flight continuously; catches with fingers extended away from chest; absorbs force (9–10/10 catches).
4 Marks (Proficient):
Hands in front of body; thumbs together high, pinkies low; slight body trap on hard throws (7–8/10 catches secured cleanly).
3 Marks (Developing):
Regularly traps ball against torso/chest; reacts late to flight speed; misses catches outside midline (5–6/10 catches secured).
0–2 Marks (Needs Practice):
Turns head away or flinches; stiff arms with closed hands; unable to gauge trajectory. Under 50% success; requires soft foam balls.
