Learning Targets
I can identify my "Personal Space Bubble."
I can stop and start on the teacher's signal.
I can name 3 gym safety rules.
Equipment
Whistle / Music player
Cones (for perimeter)
Poly-spots (1 per student)
0:00 - Introduction
Gather students on the center circle. Start with a high-energy welcome.
"Welcome, Gym Giants! My name is Coach ________, and I am so excited to move with you this year. This gym is our giant playground, but to have the most fun, we have to be safe Giants."
0:07 - The Space Bubble
Direct Instruction Script:
"Everyone, stand up and reach your arms out as far as they go. Now, spin slowly in a circle. This invisible circle around you is your Space Bubble. If you can touch someone else, you are too close! Giants respect each other's bubbles."
Procedure: Have students walk within the cones, trying not to 'pop' bubbles. Use stop signal immediately.
0:20 - Signals Training
Direct Instruction Script:
"In our gym, music is our GO signal. When the music plays, we move! When the music STOPS, we freeze like statues. Let's practice our statue poses!"
Standard Alignment: Practice locomotor movements (walking, tip-toeing). S4.E1 (Safety awareness).
0:35 - The Giant Wrap-Up
Reflection Question:
"Who can show me what they do when they hear the whistle?"
Assessment Check: Give a 'thumbs up' if you stayed in your bubble the whole time.
Materials Handout: Distribute the "Movement Passport Student Log" as they line up. Explain that this is their special record for the whole school year!
