SOUP CINEMA: THE FULL STORY
FILM: 30 POINTS
3–5 Min Short Film
The Filmmaker's Mission (30 Pts)
Great food television doesn't just show a recipe—it tells an authentic human story. Your production crew will document the entire lifecycle of an artisanal soup from raw ingredient prep to steam-rising final ladle. Capture the quiet concentration, the intense sizzle, the inevitable mid-cook crisis, and the collective celebration around the bowl.
Required Narrative Arc (The 4 Acts)
1
Act I: The Blueprint & Prep
Introduce your team, soup concept, flavor profile hypothesis, and knife work (mise en place ). Show organization and tool preparation.
2
Act II: Heat & Transformation
Aromatics sweating, browning, layering stocks, seasoning benchmarks, and simmering. Focus on physical texture shifts, bubbling broths, and rising steam.
3
Act III: Heat, Friction & Flow
Team communication during peak cooking: managing timing, adjusting salt/acidity, solving an unexpected flavor or texture challenge, and kitchen cleanliness.
4
Act IV: The Bowl & The Truth
Plating and garnishing beauty shots, followed by candid tasting reactions. Honest critique: what worked, what needed more balance, and what you learned.
Culinary Camera Arsenal (Must Include All 4)
Bird's-Eye Top
Top-down view of cutting boards, arranged aromatics, or pot interior.
Macro Sizzle
Extreme close-up of knife cutting herbs, garlic bubbling, or soup simmering.
Medium Action
Waist-up framing showing teamwork, verbal callouts, stirring, and station cleanup.
Sensory Reveal
Garnish drizzle, ladle pour in slow motion, steam curling off the finished bowl.
Technical Deliverables & Format
Length: 3 to 5 minutes (strict cutoff)
Audio: Kitchen sounds (ASMR) + narration
Titles: Ingredient labels & role callouts

Kitchen "Hot Set" Golden Rules
Computer Sterilization
Computers carry bacteria. Disinfect recording laptops and webcams before entry. The camera operator never touches food without re-washing hands.
Lens Fog & Steam Clearance
Maintain at least 18 inches between camera and steaming pots. Never lean over an active flame or boiling liquid for a dramatic low angle.
Clean Verbal Calls
Use standard kitchen callouts on camera: "Behind you," "Hot pot," "Sharp knife moving." Good kitchen audio proves professional teamwork.
