Instructional Flow
5 MINS
The Mindset: Introduction
- Welcome students and introduce the "Dojo" atmosphere.
- Discuss discipline (doing what needs to be done even when it's hard) and self-control (staying in charge of your actions).
- Explain the lesson structure: Warm-up, Demonstration, Practice, and Reflection.
10 MINS
Body Prep: Warm-Up
- Lead a series of dynamic stretches to wake up the muscles.
- Include: Large arm circles, leg swings (holding a wall if needed), and slow torso twists.
- Focus on breathing—inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.
10 MINS
The Art: Demonstration
- Show the Defensive Stance: Feet shoulder-width, knees slightly bent, hands up near the face.
- Show the Punch: Straight from the shoulder, twisting the fist at the end.
- Show the Front Kick: Lift the knee first (chamber), snap the foot forward, and pull it back.
- Emphasize that martial arts are for self-defense and focus, not for aggression.
15 MINS
The Discipline: Practice Session
- Pair students up. One acts as the "observer" while the other practices the moves.
- Use the Action Strike Cards to guide the movements.
- Circulate to check form. Focus on "control"—stopping the move exactly where intended.
5 MINS
Inner Peace: Cool-Down
- Gentle stretching and deep "box breathing" (4 counts in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold).
- Facilitate a reflection: "How did it feel to control your body so precisely?"
- Distribute the Inner Strength Worksheet.
