No Hands Slides No Hands!
Soccer Skill Superstars: Lesson 1
Rule #1
The Big Question
In soccer, our feet are the bosses!
Feet = YES!
Hands = NO!
What happens if we touch the ball with our hands?
The Magic Lines
Stay Inside!
The ball likes to stay on the green grass. If it crosses the line, it is "Out"!
If the ball goes out, we FREEZE .
Wait for the whistle!
Use your feet to bring it back.
Game Alert: Boundary Boss
🟢 GO!
🟡 SLOW
🔴 FREEZE
How to Play:
Dribble your ball in the "Safe Zone."
Hands behind your back!
If you cross the line, you must "Freeze" until a coach helps you back.
No crashing into friends!
Ready to Play?
Can you go the whole game without your hands touching the ball?
YES WE CAN!
Boundary Boss Lesson Plan Boundary Boss
Lesson 1: No Hands & Boundaries
45 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Students will demonstrate the "no hands" rule by keeping hands away from the ball during play.
Students will identify the field boundaries and stop play when the ball crosses the line.
Students will practice impulse control by "freezing" on a whistle or command.
Equipment Needed
One soccer ball per student
Cones/Markers for field lines
Coach Whistle
Pinnies/Vests (Optional)
Coach's Script
"In soccer, our feet are the bosses! Your hands are the helpers that stay behind your back."
"Look at these lines on the ground. This is our house. If the ball leaves our house, we have to go get it and bring it back inside."
"When I blow the whistle, what do we do? We FREEZE like statues!"
Lesson Flow
1
The Hook: Feet are Bosses (5 mins)
Gather students in a circle. Introduce the ball. Ask: 'Can I use my hands?' (Dramatic 'No!'). Explain that in soccer, we only use our feet (except for the goalie, but keep it simple for now).
2
Red Light, Green Light: Boundary Edition (15 mins)
Students dribble within the marked area. Green = Go, Yellow = Slow, Red = Freeze. If a student's ball goes outside the cones, they must stop, pick it up with hands (the only time!), and place it back inside before continuing.
Pro Tip: Have students tuck their thumbs into their pockets or hold their own hands behind their backs to remind them not to reach for the ball.
3
The Boundary Race (20 mins)
Divide into small groups. They must dribble 'around the world' (along the boundary lines) without letting the ball fall off the 'cliff' (out of bounds). If it goes out, they have to do 3 toe-taps before restarting.
How to Know They've Got It
Do they stop automatically when the ball crosses a line?
Are hands staying down/back during active dribbling?
Can they 'Freeze' immediately on the whistle?
Are they using small 'baby touches' to keep the ball close?

Lesson 2: Finding Open Space
45 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Students will identify "Open Space" as areas of the field without players.
Students will demonstrate the ability to dribble away from a crowd and toward an empty marker.
Students will understand the rule of "One Player Per Island" to promote spreading out.
Equipment Needed
Hula Hoops or Flat Rubber Spots
One soccer ball per student
Boundary Cones
Space Vocabulary
Beehive: Bunching up
Open Space: Empty grass
Scan: Looking around
Lesson Flow
1
The Hook: The Beehive (5 mins)
Have students stand in a tight bunch. Ask: 'Can we move our feet? Can we pass the ball?' Then have them spread out until they can't touch anyone. Ask: 'Is this easier?' Explain that in soccer, we want to find our own 'island'.
2
Game: Island Hopping (20 mins)
Scatter hoops/spots across the field. Students dribble freely. When the coach yells "STORM!", they must find an empty island and stop their ball inside it. If an island is taken, they must 'scan' for a new one.
Coaching Cue: "Head up, eyes looking for the empty green grass!"
3
The Passing Bridge (20 mins)
In pairs, one student stands on an island. The other must dribble to a different island and pass the ball to their partner. They then swap places. This reinforces that we pass into open space.
Success Checklist
Do they look up while dribbling?
Do they automatically avoid the 'Beehive'?
Can they name what 'Open Space' looks like?
Do they wait for an island to be empty before entering?

Castle Guards Lesson Plan Castle Guards
Lesson 3: Attackers vs. Defenders
45 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Students will differentiate between the role of an Attacker (Knight) and a Defender (Guard).
Students will demonstrate a basic defensive stance (knees bent, watching the ball).
Students will understand the concept of "staying between the ball and the goal."
Equipment Needed
Small Goals or Pugg Goals
One soccer ball per pair
Two colors of pinnies/vests
Key Teaching Tip
"Remind students that a good Guard doesn't just kick the ball away immediately. They use their body to build a wall and slow the Knight down. Don't dive in—stand your ground!"
Lesson Flow
1
Knight vs. Guard Intro (10 mins)
Show the group a goal (The Castle). Place one student as the 'Knight' with a ball and one as the 'Guard' (no ball). Explain the jobs. Demonstrate the 'Shuffle' (side-to-side movement) without crossing feet.
2
The Mirror Game (10 mins)
Pairs face each other. No ball yet. The 'Knight' moves side-to-side slowly. The 'Guard' must mirror their movements, keeping their chest facing the partner at all times. This builds the spatial awareness needed for defending.
3
Protect the Castle 1v1 (25 mins)
Setup small 5x5 yard grids with a goal at one end. Knight tries to score. Guard tries to stop them. If the Guard wins the ball, they swap roles immediately. Rule: No pushing or using hands!
Defense Diagnostics
"Are they looking at the ball or the player's face?" (Should be ball)
"Are they keeping a 'bubble' of space between them and the Knight?"
"Do they switch roles quickly when the ball changes hands?"
"Are they staying between the Knight and the Castle?"

Lesson 4: Throw-Ins & Game Starts
45 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Students will demonstrate a legal throw-in with both feet on the ground and two hands on the ball.
Students will recognize the side line as the location where throw-ins occur.
Students will practice the "Ready, Set, Launch" sequence for overhead throws.
Equipment Needed
One soccer ball per pair
Long cones or ropes for lines
Hoops (Targets)
The Technique
1
Feet Glue: Don't lift toes or heels. Feet must stay flat like they are glued to the grass.
2
W-Grip: Make a 'W' with your thumbs behind the ball for control.
3
The Arc: Ball goes behind the head and over the top in one smooth motion.
Lesson Flow
1
The Rocket Launch Intro (10 mins)
Explain the rule. 'When the ball goes out the side, we use our hands!' Demonstrate the Rocket Launch. Have students practice without a ball first, focusing on 'glue feet'.
2
Target Practice (15 mins)
Set up hoops 5 feet away from the side line. Students stand behind the line and try to 'launch' their rocket (ball) into the hoop. If they lift a foot, they have to try again!
Watch for: One-handed 'baseball' throws. Remind them: 'Both hands help the rocket fly straight!'
3
Throw-In Transition (20 mins)
In pairs. One person is on the field, one is 'out'. The 'out' player throws the ball in to the 'in' player. The 'in' player traps it with their feet and dribbles for 5 seconds. Swap roles.
Mistake Monitor
The Jump
Students often want to jump into the throw. Remind them their feet are 'Anchors'.
The Short-Change
Dropping the ball instead of throwing it over. Encourage a big 'rainbow' arc.

Hot Lava Grid Lesson Plan The Big Game
Lesson 5: Culminating Play
60 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Students will apply the "no hands" and "staying in bounds" rules during a simulated game.
Students will demonstrate spatial awareness by spreading out and finding "islands" while play is active.
Students will show self-regulation by stopping play immediately when a whistle blows or ball goes out.
Final Checklist
Small goals (1 per 3 students)
Bright cones for boundaries
Soccer Star Certificates
The "Lava" Rule
"In today's final game, the boundary line is the shore. If the ball touches the 'lava' (outside), the whole game stops. This high-stakes metaphor helps Kindergarteners focus on spatial limits."
The Grand Finale
1
Superstar Warmup (10 mins)
Review all skills quickly: Dribbling (Lesson 1), Island Hopping (Lesson 2), Guard Stance (Lesson 3), and one practice Rocket Launch (Lesson 4).
2
3v3 Grid Games (30 mins)
Play small-sided 3v3 games in 15x10 yard grids. No goalies! This maximizes touches and forces spatial awareness. Use a 'Freeze' whistle frequently to point out 'Beehives' and 'Open Space'.
Coach Role: Don't ref, COACH. "Knight, where is your open space?", "Guard, get your knees bent!"
3
Award Ceremony (10 mins)
Gather the students. Reflect on the essential question: 'Why do rules and space matter?' Hand out the Soccer Star Certificates to each student.
Sequence Completion Rubric
Skill Emerging Proficient No Hands Still reaches for ball with hands. Hands stay back/down during play. Boundaries Ignores lines and continues play. Stops or yells "Out!" when ball crosses.
