Mission Instructions
When we feel unsafe or "tricky" situations happen, our body sends us signals. These are Warning Signs . Use the markers or crayons provided to color in the parts of the body where you feel these signals. Then, label what that feeling is (like "Fast Heart" or "Sweaty Palms").

Lesson 1: Developing Physical Instinct Awareness
45-60 MIN
Learning Objectives
• Identify 3+ physical warning signs of an unsafe situation.
• Define "intuition" as a natural protective system.
• Differentiate between "excited" and "unsafe" butterflies.
Materials Needed
• Mystery Box (shoebox with a hole)
• Unknown textured items (cold sponge, fake fur, etc.)
• Internal Alarm Slides & Body Map Worksheet
Hook: The Mystery Box Activity (10 min)
Setup: Place a shoebox with a hole on a desk. Tell students there is something "mysterious" inside.
Action: Ask for a volunteer to walk toward the box. Stop them before they touch it.
Discussion Prompt: "Before [Name] even touched the box, how did they feel? How did the rest of you feel watching? Did anyone's heart speed up? That feeling is your body talking to you!"
Discussion Guide
Defining Intuition
Explain that intuition is the "knowing" without knowing how you know. Use the analogy of an animal sensing a storm before it arrives. It's a superpower designed to keep them safe.
Excited vs. Unsafe
Important distinction! Help students understand that butterflies before a birthday party are "Good Tummy Flutters," while butterflies when a situation feels wrong are "Warning Tummy Flutters."
Body Map Facilitation
As students complete the Internal Alarm Body Map , circulate and ask:
"Where do you feel a warning sign first? Your head, heart, or hands?"
"Does your voice ever feel tight or quiet when you're worried?"

Behavior Matters Most
Looks Can Be Deceiving
Being safe isn't about how someone looks (scary, mean, or messy).
It's about how someone acts.
"People aren't tricky. Behaviors are tricky!"
A friendly person can act tricky.
A "scary" person might be safe.
