POWER KICK
Passing vs. Shooting
Hook: Do we whisper to the goal or do we SHOUT at it?
The Pass: A Whisper
Part of Foot:
Inside (The Big Wall)
Purpose:
To be soft and gentle to a teammate.
Use the inside of your shoe!
The Shot: A Shout!
Part of Foot:
The Laces (Top of foot)
Purpose:
To be FAST and POWERFUL into the goal!
Point your toes down!
How to Shoot with Power
1
Big Step
Step next to the ball with your non-kicking foot.
2
Toes Down
Lock your ankle and point your laces at the ball.
3
Boom!
Strike the middle of the ball and swing through.
Your Turn!
1. Find your soccer ball "nest"
2. Practice 3 "Whisper" passes
3. Practice 3 "SHOUT" shots!

Teacher Lesson Guide
LESSON 1 OF 5
Objective
Students will distinguish the difference between a pass (inside of foot) and a shot (laces), demonstrating the ability to strike a stationary ball with power using their laces.
Essential Question
"Do we whisper to the goal or do we SHOUT at it with our feet?"
Equipment
1 Size 3 Soccer Ball per student
4 Cones per student (for "nests")
Full-size or pop-up goals
Power Kick Slides
Instructional Arc
1
The Hook (5-7 mins)
Gather students in a circle. Ask: "If you want to tell a secret to a friend, do you shout or whisper?" Demonstrate a whisper. "What if you're cheering for your favorite team? Do you whisper or SHOUT?" Demonstrate a shout. Explain that in soccer, we "whisper" to our teammates (passing) and "shout" at the goal (shooting).
2
Workshop: Laces vs. Inside (10 mins)
Use the Power Kick Slides. Show students the "inside" of their foot. Call it the "Big Wall." This is for whispering. Then show the "laces." This is for SHOUTING!
Cues for Shooting:
"Plant foot next to the ball" (Point to target)
"Toes down, laces hard" (Like a hammer)
"Boom through the middle!"
3
Practice: Stationary Strikes (15 mins)
Students find their "nest" (cone square). They start with 5 "Whisper" passes against a wall or to a partner. Then, signal for "SHOUT" time. They take a small step and strike the ball with their laces into the goal.
Teacher Tip: Look for students "toeing" the ball. Remind them to point toes down so the ball hits the laces.
4
Reflection & Cool Down (5 mins)
Call everyone back. "When we want the ball to go fast and far, which part of our foot do we use?" (Laces!) Finish with the "Laces vs Inside Sort" worksheet to check for understanding.
Challenges (Extension)
Have students try shooting from further away or aiming for a specific cone inside the goal.
Support (Scaffolding)
Let students start by just touching their laces to the ball while it's held by the teacher to feel the contact point.

LESSON 2 OF 5
Objective
Students will practice precision shooting by aiming for visual targets (cones/hoops) placed in the corners of the goal, learning to avoid the center area where a goalkeeper would stand.
Essential Question
"The goalie is in the middle! Can you hit the corners where they can't reach?"
Setup
Goals with "Center Zones" marked (use a large cone or cardboard cutout of a goalie)
Brightly colored cones/hula hoops in the top or bottom corners
Instructional Arc
1
The Goalie Trap (5 mins)
Stand in the middle of a goal with your arms wide. "I am the Goalkeeper! If you kick the ball to me, I will gobble it up! Where should you kick so I can't reach it?" Have students point to the corners. Introduce the concept of "Corner Hunting."
2
Technique: The Plant Foot Compass (10 mins)
Explain that our non-kicking foot is like a compass. Wherever it points, the ball usually goes.
Cues for Aiming:
"Look at the corner" (Target locked)
"Point your helper foot at the target"
"Lace strike through the ball"
3
Game: Target Hunter (20 mins)
Set up multiple goals or stations. Each goal has targets in the corners.
Round 1: Stationary balls. Aim for the "Blue Corner."
Round 2: Aim for the "Yellow Corner."
Round 3: Teacher stands in the middle as a "Statue Goalie." Students must score around the statue.
4
Debrief (5 mins)
Gather the class. "When we are close to the goal, should we kick as hard as we can or should we look for a corner?" Discuss how aiming is sometimes more important than just power. Distribute the "Target Hunter Log" for students to track their successes.
Challenges (Extension)
Place targets in the TOP corners for advanced students to try and lift the ball slightly.
Support (Scaffolding)
Use larger targets (hula hoops) and allow students to move closer to the goal.

LESSON 3 OF 5
Objective
Students will combine dribbling with shooting, demonstrating the ability to transition from moving with the ball to a powerful laces strike without stopping the ball completely.
Essential Question
"Can you drive the ball to the goal and shoot without stopping your car?"
Field Setup
Starting cone 15 yards from goal
Dribbling lane (3-5 small cones)
"Shooting Zone" (marked by two flat discs 5 yards from goal)
Instructional Arc
1
The Speed Car Hook (5 mins)
Pretend you are a race car. "If a race car is driving really fast to the finish line, does it stop right before the line? No! It zooms right through!" Explain that today, our dribble is the drive and our shot is the finish line. We don't want any red lights!
2
Technique: The Prep Touch (10 mins)
Demonstrate the "Prep Touch." While dribbling, the last touch should be a bit bigger and pushed slightly diagonal. This gives you space to take that big step and swing your laces.
Cues for Dribble-Shoot:
"Small touches" (Keep it close)
"Prep touch" (Push it away)
"Big step, Boom!" (No stopping)
3
Drill: Dash to the Goal (20 mins)
Students line up. One at a time, they dribble through a 5-meter zig-zag of cones. When they hit the "Shooting Zone," they must take their prep touch and shoot before the ball stops.
Challenge: Time them! "Can you finish the whole dash in 10 seconds?"
4
Reflection (5 mins)
"What was the hardest part: the dribbling or the shooting while moving?" Most will say the shooting. Remind them that the "Prep Touch" is the secret key. Hand out the "Soccer Skills Tracker" to mark off their progress.
Challenges (Extension)
Have students dribble with their non-dominant foot but shoot with their dominant foot.
Support (Scaffolding)
Allow students to take a "half-stop" (very slow roll) before shooting until they get the timing.

LESSON 4 OF 5
Objective
Students will master the follow-through by learning to land on their kicking foot after striking the ball, which increases power and ensures proper balance.
Essential Question
"If you want the ball to go far, your foot has to chase it! Can you land on your kicking foot?"
Mechanics
Swing starts at the hip
Contact on center of ball
Weight transfers forward
Instructional Arc
1
The Chase Hook (5 mins)
Tell the students: "The ball is lonely! When you kick it, it wants its friend (your foot) to chase it a little bit. If you stop your foot early, the ball gets sad and slow." Exaggerate a kick where you stop immediately versus one where you swing through and jump.
2
Technique: The Jump-Land (10 mins)
Show students the movement without a ball first. 1. Step with plant foot. 2. Swing kicking foot forward. 3. HOP off the plant foot and land on the kicking foot.
Cues for Follow-Through:
"Swing the laces"
"Chase the ball"
"Hop and Land"
3
Drill: Flamingo Goal (20 mins)
Students line up at goals.
Challenge: Every time they shoot, they must "Land and Freeze." If they can hold their balance on the kicking foot for 3 seconds (like a Flamingo), they get a "Super Balance" point.
Teacher Watch: Ensure they aren't falling forward out of control. Arms should be out for balance.
4
Cool Down & Review (5 mins)
"Show me your best Flamingo Freeze!" (Everyone balances). Discuss how following through makes the ball go faster. Distribute the "Power Pose Checklist" for students to reflect on their form.
Challenges (Extension)
Have students try to land on their kicking foot after a moving shot (Lesson 3 combo).
Support (Scaffolding)
Hold the student's hand as they practice the "Hop and Land" to provide physical support.

1
The Parade (5 mins)
Gather students. Have them do a "Soccer Superstar Parade" around the field. Introduce the "Goal Celebration" concept. "When we score, we celebrate our hard work, but we also respect our friends!"
2
Workshop: Respectful Cheers (10 mins)
Teach 3 types of celebrations: 1. The Airplane: Arms out wide, zoom around. 2. The Statue: Strike a pose and hold it. 3. The High-Five: Find a friend and give a five!
Crucial Point: Never tease or point at the goalie. We celebrate the GOAL, not the goalie's mistake.
3
The Championship Games (25 mins)
Game 1: Rapid Fire Shooting
Divide class into 4 teams. Each team has a pile of balls. How many goals can the TEAM score in 2 minutes? No goalies yet!
Game 2: World Cup 1v1
One student starts at the starting line, dribbles, and shoots on a teacher (Statue Goalie). If they score, they do their celebration!
4
The Award Ceremony (5 mins)
Call everyone to the center circle. Hand out the "Golden Boot Certificates." Ask each student to name one thing they got better at during the soccer unit.
Extra Fun
Introduce a "Golden Ball" that is worth 5 points for the team that finds it and scores with it.
Inclusivity
Ensure every student gets a chance to "win" a round or score a goal by adjusting the goalie's difficulty level.
