Invasion Games Strategy • Grades 6-7 • 2026-2027
Unit Philosophy
In mixed grade classes, shift focus from mechanical execution to tactical awareness. Use "Game Breaks" to pause play and discuss the logic behind positioning rather than just score outcomes.
The Power of Space
Tactical Objective
Moving away from the ball to create dynamic passing lanes.
Pause & Prompt
• "Where is the 'empty air' right now?"
• "How does bunching help the defense?"
Vocal Chemistry
Tactical Objective
Using verbal and non-verbal cues to coordinate attacks.
Pause & Prompt
• "What did you 'say' without speaking?"
• "What one 'call' could save this play?"
Grade-Level Differentiation
7th Grade: Anticipation
Focus on "Field General" roles. Challenge them to anticipate the next move before it happens.
6th Grade: Position
Focus on "Fundamental Flow". Ensure high-frequency touches and understanding of boundaries.
The Blueprint Rule: 3-pass minimum before scoring. No exceptions.
Post-Game Debrief
"Was today a 'good win' because of the score or the teamwork?"
"How did you adapt your game when your teammate was struggling?"
