Coach Field Protocol:
- Stop play immediately; sit player safely on sideline.
- Escort to family (Mom, Dad, Grandpa) right away.
- Stay with player while family tests and manages blood sugar.
- Never leave player unattended until cleared by family.
HIGH BLOOD SUGAR

• Frequent bathroom trips
• Irritability or agitation
• Rapid / heavy breathing
Coach Field Protocol:
- Sub player out; allow player to connect with family.
- Provide plenty of water (NO sports drinks or juices).
- Inspect insulin device: check cannula, pod, or CGM link.
- Family administers correction dose if indicated; rest & recheck.
Insulin Device Check (Every 30 Min)
Lacrosse body contact, stick checks, and falls can dislodge continuous glucose monitors (CGM), loosen adhesive patches, or disconnect insulin pump tubing. At every 30-minute interval, coach must confirm that the player’s device remains firmly attached and is operating normally. If the device is dislodged, alarm is sounding, or the player expresses any concern, immediately send the player to the sidelines with Mom, Dad, or Grandpa.
Call 911 Immediately If:
- Player is unconscious or unresponsive
- Seizure or severe convulsions occur
- Unable or refuses to swallow safely
