4 Engaging Ways to Play in Class (Instructions in English)
Mode 1: Letter Name Call (Beginner) The teacher calls out the official Spanish letter name (e.g., "¡Busca la hache!" or "¡Busca la che!"). Students race to locate and swat the correct letter card.
Mode 2: Phonics & Sound-Only (Intermediate) The teacher produces only the target phoneme: "/ch/..." or the trilled "/rr/..." versus the single tap "/r/...". Excellent for ear training.
Mode 3: Mystery First Letter (Advanced) The teacher states a Spanish vocabulary word: "Chocolate!" or "Lluvia!". Students must determine the initial sound and swat CH or LL.
Mode 4: Desk Pair Speed Duel (Competitive) Two students sit opposite each other with the board centered between them. First student to reach 5 or 10 confirmed swats wins the round!
Instructional Notes on Spanish Digraphs (CH, LL, RR) & Letters:
While the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) cataloged CH and LL as digraphs rather than separate alphabet entries in 2010, explicitly teaching them alongside RR remains essential for English speakers. It prevents confusion between single letters and distinct phonemes (C vs CH, L vs LL, and the single tap R vs rolling RR).
