Force:
A simple push or pull on an object.
Equilibrium:
When all forces are balanced (nothing moves!).
Unbalanced Force:
A force that makes things change speed or direction.
Trajectory:
The path the ball follows through the air.

The change in momentum—how hard or soft you receive the ball.

SOFT FEET CHALLENGE
Hard Feet
The ball hits a stiff foot and bounces away fast. High force, low time.
Soft Feet
"Giving" with the ball increases the time of impact.
The Mission:
Catch a high ball out of the air. Your goal is to stop it DEAD.

The Physics "Why"
Newton's First Law: The ball won't stop rolling unless friction (contact force) or a foot stops it.
Impulse Equation: \( F \cdot \Delta t = m \cdot \Delta v \). By increasing the time of impact (\(\Delta t\)), we decrease the force (\(F\)) felt by the foot and the ball.
Safe Stop: "Hard feet" cause rapid deceleration, creating a high peak force that makes the ball bounce away and can strain ankles.
DRILL INSTRUCTIONS

Warm-up: The Physics of Direction
Set up 5 cones in a zig-zag line. Students must dribble as fast as possible, making sharp turns at each cone.
Teaching Cue:
"Notice how much force you have to push against the ground to change your trajectory! If you don't push hard to the side, where does your body want to go? (Straight—Inertia!)"

Film Study Discussion Points
Segment 1 (0:54): Ask: "What forces are on the ball right now?" (Gravity down, Ground pushing up).
Segment 3 (1:59): Ask: "If you receive a 50mph ball with a brick wall, what happens? Why? If you use a pillow, what happens?"

The Soft Feet Challenge
The Setup:
One student tosses the ball high into the air (underhand). The receiver must trap it with their foot.
The "Secret Sauce":
Tell them to 'catch' the ball with their foot like it's a water balloon they don't want to pop. Pull the foot down at the exact same speed the ball is falling.
