How Muscles Contract

The Cross-Bridge Cycle
Muscles move when tiny filaments (actin and myosin) slide past each other. This causes the muscle to shorten or contract.
Teacher Note: Explain the microscopic level. Play animation (once linked). Point out sarcomere shortening as filaments slide.

The Connection
Strong Tissues
Tendons are strong, fibrous tissues that don't stretch easily.
Anchor Points
They attach muscle to bone, acting as the physical bridge.
Force Transfer
They transmit the force of contraction to make the bone move.
Teacher Note: Introduce tendons as connectors. Emphasize force transmission. Simulation: Pull on a rubber band to show tension.

Movement Explanation: Look for the idea that muscles pull on tendons, which then pull on bones to create a lever system. Skeletal muscle can only pull, not push.
