Move Your Way Teacher Guide
Adapted PE & Therapy Guide Inclusive Movement Circuit
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Move Your Way Facilitation Guide
Tiered movement stations targeting Locomotor Agility, Functional Strength & Mobility, and Coordination for diverse motor profiles.
Target Group K–8 All Abilities
Duration 40–50 Minutes
Setting Gym / Multi-Room / Hall
Format 3-Station Rotations
1. Targeted Gross Motor Domains
Locomotor Agility
Dynamic traversal, direction change, stepping/rolling over terrain markers, pacing control, and spatial navigation.
Strength & Mobility
Upper body pushing/reaching, core stabilization, cross-body flexion, and safe active range of motion against gravity.
Ball & Throw Skills
Hand-eye coordination, bilateral integration, underhand release, directional aim, and two-handed trap-catching.
2. Differentiation & Mobility Tiers (Apply across all activities)
Tier A: Independent Ambulatory
- Standard boundary lines and upright movement.
- Incorporate level changes (squatting, low reach, jumps).
- Increase distance from target zones by 3–6 feet.
Tier B: Device Users (Walker / Crutches)
- Widen pathways to at least 48 inches with smooth tape.
- Use two-handed rolling or one-handed grip release.
- Provide sturdy grab-bars or weighted chairs for rests.
Tier C: Seated / Wheelchair Users
- Wheelchair slalom, controlled pushes, reverse rolls.
- Position targets at seated eye level (30–36 inches).
- Use lap trays or tabletop ramps for ball rolling.
Tier D: Sensory / High Physical Assist
- Use high-contrast tape and auditory rattle balls/bells.
- Hand-under-hand guidance; slow down auditory pace.
- Provide weighted lap pads or quiet calm-down corner.
3. Warm-Up: "Body Engine Start-Up" (7–10 Minutes)
Rhythm & Proprioception
1. Sky Reachers
Reach both hands high to "touch the clouds", then sweep down to touch knees or toes. (Seated: reach overhead, rest hands on lap).
2. Airplane Wings
Extend arms wide. Small arm circles forward (5x), then backward (5x). Gentle torso twists side to side looking over shoulders.
3. March & Stamp
High knees march in place or stamp feet gently to a steady 4-count beat. (Seated: alternative knee lifts or gentle foot taps).

Station Blueprints & Implementation
Rotations: 8–10 Min Per Station
Detailed breakdown for Station Leaders, Paraeducators, and Physical Therapists.
Station 1 The Trail Blazers (Locomotor Skills)
Focus: Walking, Hopping, Rolling, Wheeling
Setup & Flow Lay out visual poly-spots, wavy floor tape lines, and low foam domes in a continuous 30-foot circuit. Students navigate around or step onto markers.
Key Modifications
- Walkers/Wheels: Smooth tape lines with 4-foot turning radius.
- Sensory: High-contrast yellow/black tape; tactile spot markers.
Station 2 Power Pillars (Strength & Mobility)
Focus: Core, Upper Body, Postural Control
Setup & Flow Wall station + mat area. Students perform "Wall Push-Ups" (flat palms, press in/out), "Rainbow Scarf Sweeps", and seated or floor bridge holds.
Key Modifications
- Seated: Push against therapy ball pressed to chest or lap desk.
- Scarf Sweeps: Use lightweight sensory chiffon scarves for low-effort arm raises.
Station 3 Target Arena (Coordination & Toss)
Focus: Roll, Underhand Throw, Scoop Catch
Setup & Flow 3 tiered targets: Large storage tote (close/wide), hula hoop on gym floor (medium), and wall bullseye with velcro pads. Students throw beanbags or roll balls.
Key Modifications
- Grip Assist: Textured koosh balls, ring beanbags, or balloon balls.
- Ramps: Pool-noodle guide track for rolling down from lap tray.
Adaptive Equipment & DIY Budget Alternatives
Locomotor: Poly-spots → Colored paper taped to floor
Agility cones → Clean upside-down storage buckets
Strength & Mobility: Resistance bands → Stretchy sensory tube / Lycra
Medicine balls → Water bottles half-filled with sand
Coordination: Weighted beanbags → Rolled socks with rice
Catching gloves → Cut-open plastic milk jugs as scoops
Cool-Down: Calm Cloud (5 Min)
Transition heart rate down and integrate sensory input before returning to academic class.
- Candle & Flower Breath: Smell the flower (in 4s), blow out the candle (out 4s).
- Slow Arm Melts: Hands high, slowly melt down to floor like gentle rain.
PE / PT / OT IEP Data Tracking
Standardized observational prompts for student progress documentation:
- Counts of independent attempts vs. physical prompts (HOH).
- Distance of controlled release (3ft / 6ft / 10ft).
- Endurance duration before fatigue or loss of alignment.

Station 1 Gross Motor Domain: Locomotor
The Trail Blazers Pathway
⏱ 8–10 Minutes
Movement Missions (Choose Your Challenge):
1
Follow the Line
Trace the wavy floor tape from start to finish without straying off course.
Target: Balance & Path
2
Stepping Stones
Step or roll precisely across the poly-spots. Keep your body steady like a mountain!
Target: Precision Stepping
3
Turbo & Turtle
Move fast like a rocket for 5 counts, then slow like a turtle for 5 counts.
Target: Speed Modulation
Adaptive Play Options:
Ambulatory: Try tip-toe steps, giant strides, or side-slides down the path.
Walker / Support: Follow the wide 48-inch trail with hands steady on grip bars.
Seated / Wheels: Slalom between spots with two steady pushes per marker.
Station 2 Gross Motor Domain: Strength & Mobility
Power Pillars Workout
⏱ 8–10 Minutes
Movement Missions (Choose Your Challenge):
1
Wall Blast-Offs
Place hands flat against the wall. Bend elbows in, then push back strong like a superhero! (5x)
