Learning Objectives
Today, we will learn how to:
Identify how our bodies grow and change at their own unique pace.
Practice healthy hygiene habits to feel fresh and confident.
Build positive body image by celebrating what makes us special.
What's Changing?
As you move into 3rd and 4th grade, your body is getting ready for big things! Everyone grows at their own unique pace.
Watch Out For:
Growth Spurts: You might feel taller or outgrow your shoes overnight!
More Energy: Your muscles are getting stronger.
New Feelings: It's normal to feel more "grown-up."
Growth is like a team sport—everyone finishes at different times, and that's okay!
The Hygiene Hero
Taking care of your body helps you feel fresh and confident!
Keep it Clean
Wash away sweat and dirt with a daily shower or bath.
Fresh Face
Washing your face helps keep your skin healthy and happy.
Odor Alert
When we move more, we sweat more. Deodorant helps keep odors away!
Love Your Reflection
"Your body is the house you live in. It's your partner in everything you do—running, drawing, laughing, and learning!"
Boosting Self-Esteem:
Focus on what your body can do (run fast, give great hugs).
Be kind to yourself—speak to yourself like you'd speak to a best friend.
I am unique!
My Best Self
Let's practice some positive thinking together!
"My body is strong and helps me explore the world."
"I am more than just how I look—I am kind, smart, and brave."
"I take care of my body because it does so much for me."
Remember: You are Growing Up Great!

Lesson Delivery Steps
1
Setting the Stage (Slides 1-3)
Introduce the lesson goals and discuss how everything in nature grows at its own pace. Use Slide 2 to explicitly state what students will be able to do by the end of the session.
"Just like flowers bloom at different times in a garden, humans grow at different speeds too."
2
Hygiene Heroes (Slide 4)
Discuss hygiene as a form of self-respect. Explain that sweat is a sign of a hard-working body, and washing is how we refresh it. Hand out the Growing Up Worksheet during this section.
Key Focus Points:
Sweat is natural cooling.
Washing helps our skin stay healthy.
Feeling fresh builds confidence.
3
Reflection & Affirmation (Slides 5-6)
Guide students through the "Love Your Reflection" mindset. Have them complete Part 2 of the worksheet. Encourage students to share one "body function" they are grateful for.
Handling Sensitive Questions
Question about puberty?
Keep it age-appropriate. Answer: "Yes, our bodies go through many changes as we transition from kids to adults. We'll learn more about those specific changes in later grades, but for now, focus on healthy habits like hygiene!"
Negative body comments?
Redirect quickly. "We're all here to support each other. Remember our rule: We speak to ourselves and others like we would to a best friend."
