Becoming a Stamina Superstar!
🐢 Slow & Steady
🏃♂️ Keep Moving
❤️ Heart Power
The Big Question
How can I keep my body moving for a long time without getting too tired to finish?
Today's Mission: Find Your Forever Pace
Who Wins the Race?
🐇
The Hare
"Fast and Napping"
Runs super fast at the start
Gets tired very quickly
Has to stop and rest
🐢
The Tortoise
"Slow and Steady"
Moves at a steady speed
Never needs to stop
Finishes the whole race!
The Stamina Secret:
The Talk Test
How do you know if you are at a good "Tortoise Pace"?
If you can talk to a friend while moving...
Perfect Pacing!
If you are too huffy to say a full sentence...
Slow Down!
Ready to Practice?
1. Start with a Jog (Not a Run!)
2. Keep your feet pitter-pattering softly
3. Can you tell your friend your favorite color?

Key Vocabulary
Stamina, Pacing, Jogging, Aerobic
1 The Hook: Tortoise & Hare (10 mins)
Discussion: Tell the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. Ask: "Why did the Hare lose if he was so much faster?"
Movement Demo: Have one student "Hare" (sprint across the gym) and one student "Tortoise" (slow, easy jog). Discuss who could keep going for 5 minutes.
2 Finding the "Talk Test" Pace (15 mins)
Activity: Students jog in a large circle. On your signal, they must find a partner and say one complete sentence (e.g., "I like to eat pizza for dinner").
Teacher Cue: "If you can't finish your sentence without taking a big gasp of air, you are a Hare! Slow down until you feel like a Tortoise."
3 Sustained Jogging Trial (10 mins)
Set a timer for 2 minutes. The goal is continuous movement . No walking, no stopping, just a slow, pitter-patter jog. Focus on "quiet feet" and relaxed arms.
Look For:
Elbows bent at 90 degrees
Landing on mid-foot
Steady breathing
Common Errors:
Looking at feet
Holding breath
Starting too fast
Pro-Tips for 1st Grade
Use the term "Forever Pace" to describe the speed they can hold indefinitely.
Play upbeat but moderate-tempo music (120-130 BPM) to help set the rhythm.

Teacher Facilitation Guide • Lesson 2
1st Grade PE
Objective
Students will practice high-intensity cardio bursts (30 seconds) using jumping locomotor skills.
Equipment
Jump ropes (one per student)
Painter's tape or poly spots
Music with strong beat
Safety
Space awareness, handle grip, "Bubble Space" rule.
1 Kangaroo Warm-Up (5 mins)
Students practice "invisible" jumping. No ropes yet. Focus on landing quietly on the balls of the feet.
Challenge: Can you jump as high as a house? (One big jump). Now, can you jump as quick as a mouse? (Many tiny, fast jumps).
2 The Line Jump Challenge (10 mins)
Use painter's tape on the floor or a jump rope laid straight. Students jump side-to-side (skier) or front-to-back (bell) over the line.
Teacher Cue: "Keep your eyes on the line! Keep your heart pumping!"
CORE ACTIVITY
3 30-Second Stamina Bursts (15 mins)
This is where the cardio training happens. Set a 30-second timer with high-energy music.
Round 1: Invisible Ropes (30 sec jumping, 30 sec rest)
Round 2: Line Jumps (30 sec jumping, 30 sec rest)
Round 3: Real Ropes - Practice swinging and jumping (30 sec)
Note: 1st graders may struggle with timing the rope. Encourage them to step over it if jumping is too hard, as long as they keep moving!
Common Frustrations & Solutions
"I can't jump the rope!"
Encourage "Step-Over" jumping. Focus on the wrist swing. The goal today is cardio (moving), not perfect rope technique.
"I'm too tired!"
Remind them of the Tortoise. Slow down the bounce, but keep the feet moving. Rest is okay, but try to finish the 30 seconds!

Course Layout: "The Never-Ending Adventure"
1 Hoop Land: Scatter hoops for two-foot hopping.
2 Cone Slalom: Cones in a line for zig-zag jogging.
3 Tunnel Crawl: For agility and rapid transition back to feet.
4 Balance Bridge: Walk across mats/beams with steady pace.
Jogging Loop
Connecting Stations
Facilitation Strategy
1. Staggered Start:
Send students onto the course 10 seconds apart to prevent "clumping" at stations. If a clump happens, tell the waiting student to "idle" (jog in place).
2. Power-Up Cueing:
As students complete a lap, give them a high-five or a "Power-Up" cheer to keep their energy high.
3. The 10-Minute Challenge:
Once they understand the course, play 10 minutes of continuous music. The goal is for everyone to keep moving for the entire song list.
Managing Movement
Congestion: If the tunnels are slow, create a "scenic route" (extra cone loop) for students to take instead of waiting.
Fatigue: If a student is walking, remind them of the "Tortoise Jog". Walking is okay, but "stopping" is a stall!

Victory Lap Teacher Guide The Victory Lap
Teacher Facilitation Guide • Lesson 5
1st Grade PE
Objective
Students will apply pacing skills to complete a 5-minute continuous locomotor challenge.
The Rule
Continuous motion. Walking or Jogging is permitted; stopping is the only "fail" condition.
Tone
Celebratory, encouraging, supportive, non-competitive.
1 Mental Warm-Up (5 mins)
Review the Tortoise Pace . Remind students that the first minute is the most dangerous because they will want to run fast. They must resist!
Teacher Prompt: "What do we do if we get out of breath? (Slow down to a walk, but keep feet moving!)"
2 The 5-Minute Challenge (15 mins)
Setup: A large perimeter path (cones or gym lines). Play a 5-minute upbeat playlist.
In-Game Coaching: Every 60 seconds, call out the time and give a "pacing check".
"1 minute done! Check your talk test!"
"2 minutes! You are doing it! Keep that pitter-patter rhythm."
"3 minutes! Over halfway! Don't let your engine stall!"
"4 minutes! Final stretch! Tortoise power!"
3 Victory Celebration (10 mins)
Once the timer hits 0:00, have everyone walk one more slow lap (cool down). Ask them to place their hand on their heart and feel their "Heart Power".
Certificate Ceremony: Hand out the "Stamina Squad Award" to everyone who tried their best to keep moving.
Defining Success
Success today is not about distance; it's about the duration of effort . Some students will jog the whole time, some will walk-jog. Both are winners if they didn't sit down or stop.
