Lesson 1
PRE-K
Objective
Students will identify the field lines and practice stopping the ball when it crosses a boundary.
Materials
Soccer balls (1 per student), Cones for extra visibility, Whistle, Poly-spots (islands).
Duration
20-25 Minutes

The Hook: Island Explorers
Gather students in the center of the field. Ask: "Who knows what an island is?" Explain that the soccer field is our Safe Island and everything outside the lines is Hot Lava .
"If our ball rolls into the lava, it gets too hot! We have to use our 'Rescue Foot' to stop it before it gets away."

Main Activity: Don't Feed the Lava
Step-by-Step:
Have students dribble freely within the "Island" (the field).
On your whistle, they must Freeze and put a foot on the ball.
Slowly walk them toward the boundary. Show them the white line.
The Simulation: Purposefully kick a ball out. Shout "OH NO! LAVA!" and show how to run out, stop it, and pull it back in.
Game Variant: Shark in the Water
If a ball stays out of bounds for more than 3 seconds, the "Shark" (Teacher) comes to gently kick it further away. Students must be quick!

Lesson 2

Objective
Students will understand that their team kicks toward one goal (Attack) and protects the other (Defend).
Materials
2 different colored pinnies/jerseys, Large directional arrows (paper or cones), 2 goals.

The Hook: The River Flow
Divide students into two teams (e.g., Red Team and Blue Team). Stand in the middle of the field. "The Blue Team is like a river flowing THIS WAY (point). The Red Team is a river flowing THAT WAY (point)."
"If we all kick the ball in different directions, we get stuck! Let's find our goal!"

Main Activity: Follow the Arrows
Step-by-Step:
Arrow Drill: Place large colored arrows on the ground pointing toward each goal.Have the Blue Team line up. On the whistle, they must dribble their ball following the blue arrows all the way to the "Attack Goal" and kick it in.
The Swap: Now show them the "Red Goal." Tell them: "This is the goal we protect . We stand in front of it so the other team doesn't score!"Traffic Jam: Have both teams dribble toward their attacking goals at the same time. Encourage them to look up and find their "River Flow."
Teaching Tip: Vocabulary
Instead of 'Offense' and 'Defense', use 'Goal Getters' and 'Goal Protectors'. It's more descriptive for Pre-K.

Students will practice standing in front of an opponent to block their path without using hands or pushing.

The Hook: Mirror Me
Ask students if they've ever tried to catch their own shadow. "Today, you ARE a shadow! When your partner moves left, you move left. When they move right, you move right!"
"A shadow never touches you, but it's always right there with you. That's how we play defense in soccer!"

Main Activity: The Shadow Dance
Step-by-Step:
The Human Shadow: Pair students up. One is the "Runner," one is the "Shadow." The Runner moves slowly side-to-side, and the Shadow must stay right in front of them.No-Contact Rule: If a Shadow touches their partner, they have to do 3 "star jumps" to reset their shadow powers.With the Ball: Give the "Runner" a ball. They try to dribble past their "Shadow" toward a cone. The Shadow doesn't try to kick the ball—they just use their body to block the path .
Coaching Cue: "Sticky Feet"
Tell students to have "sticky feet" on the ground—shuffling quickly side-to-side rather than crossing their legs.

Students will understand the role of the goalkeeper and practice catching and throwing within the goal box.

Gather everyone at a goal. "In soccer, usually we can't use hands. But there is ONE special player with magic powers! The Super Guardian!"
"When you stand in this box, your hands wake up! You can catch the ball and keep your goal safe."

Main Activity: Stop the Rocket
Step-by-Step:
The Guardian Stance: Show them how to stand with knees bent and hands out like a "W" to catch.Gentle Toss: Teacher tosses soft balls to the Guardian. They practice catching with two hands and "hugging" the ball to their chest.The Restart: After catching, the Guardian practice rolling the ball back to a teammate. Explain: "We roll it to our friends to start the game again!"Rotation: Give every child 3-5 tries to be the Guardian. The rest of the students can be "Rocket Shooters" (light kicks toward goal).
Coaching Cue: "Hug the Ball"
For Pre-K, catching can be tricky. Encourage them to pull the ball into their tummy once they touch it to keep it safe.

Crucial Rule: Hands Zone
Emphasize the Boundary:
Walk the student to the line of the "box." Show them that if they take one step out, they must use FEET again. This prevents them from running all over the field with the ball in their hands.

Students will play a modified mini-match, applying directionality, boundary awareness, and the 'no hands' rule.
Teams
3v3 or 4v4 on small fields. Use plenty of fields to maximize movement for everyone.

The Hook: Jersey Day!
Present the team jerseys/pinnies with fanfare. "Today is the Big Game! You have learned the lines, the goals, and the goalie magic. Now it's time to put it all together!"

Mini-Match Setup
Structure
• Two 5-minute halves.
• 1 minute water break.
• Rotate Goalies at halftime.
Rules
• Whistle = Freeze and sit down.
• Out of bounds = Teacher rolls it back in.
• Hands = Quick reminder, keep playing.

Teacher Coaching
Be the "Commentator":
"Oh! Look at Sarah using her feet! Great job keeping the ball on the island! Now the Red Team is trying to protect their goal—excellent shadow defense!"
Intervention:
If everyone gathers in a "beehive" around the ball, pause the game. "Let's find some space! Spread out like stars!"
