A comprehensive 8-week youth biking curriculum for ages 8-13, designed for 75-minute daily sessions. It includes an 8-week scope and sequence, instructor slide decks, a student ride log with checklists, and detailed exemplar lesson plans.
Always Ride Single File: Side-by-side riding blocks roads and causes severe crashes.
The 2-Bike Rule: Leave exactly 2 full bicycle lengths of empty space in front of you.
Obey Leader & Sweep: Do not pass the Lead Instructor, and stay ahead of the Sweep.

A
"A is for _______________ Pressure."
We must check this on both tires. Write the missing word on the line below:
B
"B is for _______________ Levers & Pads."
We squeeze these to ensure the pads press firmly on the wheel rim. Write the missing word on the line below:

FLAT TIRE FIGHTER MATCH
A master rider knows how to fix their own flats! Match each mechanical tool below with its correct flat-repair step. Draw a line from the tool name to the description!
A. Tire Levers
Used to pop the tire bead off the wheel rim.
B. Metal Scraper / Sandpaper
Roughens the slippery rubber tube so glue sticks.
C. Rubber Vulcanizing Patch
Seals up the tiny puncture hole so air stays inside.
D. Floor Pump with Gauge
Fills the repaired inner tube back to correct PSI.
Part 4: Explorer Log
DAILY LAP REFLECTION
Reflect on today's schoolyard loop and campus rides! Write in your answers using the spaces below. Remember to describe any interesting obstacles you successfully navigated around the school!
1. What was the absolute best part of today's campus ride loops? Why?
2. Describe one difficult hazard or playground barrier you saw, and how you cleared it safely:
How would you rate today's stamina and riding effort?

75 MINS
Street Signals & Scanning
Milestone 2
Transitioning from simple balance to mock road communication on campus. Riders learn how to check their surroundings over their shoulders without swerving, and how to project safe, clear hand signals to other vehicles.
10 MINS
0:00 - 0:10
Ground School: Signaling Drills on Foot
Walk riders to a secure schoolyard. Have them stand in a line on foot. Demonstrate the three primary left-arm signals (Left Turn, Right Turn, Stop/Slow). Guide the group to practice throwing signals in unison.
Key Safety Rule: "Always signal before you make your move, never while turning! You need both hands on the handlebars to turn safely."
15 MINS
0:10 - 0:25
Skills Clinic: The Over-Shoulder Scan Game
A rider's biggest risk is swerving when looking behind. Build a 40-foot riding lane using playground chalk. As the student rides past, the instructor stands behind and holds up a colored cone or large card. The rider must look back over their left shoulder and shout out the color without moving out of their narrow lane.
40 MINS
0:25 - 1:05
The Activity: Mock Intersection Rodeo
Chalk out a four-way cross-intersection in the parking lot, complete with pedestrian crosswalks and imaginary schoolyard stop signs.
Instructors act as pedestrian traffic or oncoming cars.
Riders approach the intersection in a single-file line.
They must perform an over-shoulder scan, issue a clear Left Turn or Right Turn arm signal, bring the bike to a complete, stable stop, and yield properly to other schoolyard riders before proceeding.
10 MINS
1:05 - 1:15
Debrief: Logbook Verification
Instructors review student performance. Direct students to open their Sprocket Log Booklets to Page 2. Sign off the "One-Hand Balance" and "Over-Shoulder Scan" performance challenges.
Differentiation & Group Controls
Youth modifications: If younger students struggle with single-hand steering during signaling, have them slow down and do a firm, exaggerating "nod" and visual check first, or allow shorter arm signal flashes rather than holding it down for a long ride. Rodeo Setup: Mark stop-lines with high-visibility safety orange cones. Ensure a 1:4 ratio during the active mock-intersection setup so teachers can correct safety mistakes immediately.
