Chaos to Order Slides Chaos to Order
Why do we even need rules?
The Great Chaos Challenge
The Goal:
Get the ball into the "goal" area to win!
The Rules:
Wait... how many people on a team? Can I use my hands? Where is the boundary?
How did that feel?
Confusing
"I didn't know what I was supposed to do."
Unfair
"Someone just grabbed the ball and ran away!"
Unsafe
"I almost got bumped because there were no teams."
Rules: The Invisible Map
Rules aren't here to stop the fun.
Rules are here to make the fun possible.
Why Rules Rule
01
Fairness
Everyone has the same chance to win and play.
02
Safety
We know how to move so nobody gets hurt.
03
Clarity
We know how to keep score and when the game is over.
Let's Brainstorm
"What is ONE rule we should add to our Chaos Game to make it fun for everyone?"

Lesson 1: The Chaos of No Rules • Grade 2
TEACHER RESOURCE
Objective
Students will participate in a physical activity devoid of rules to personally experience the frustration and lack of safety inherent in lawlessness. This experiential "hook" leads to an inquiry-based discovery of why rules are essential for sportsmanship.
Materials Needed
1 Large Soft Ball (e.g., Gator Skin)
2 Cones (to mark a vague "goal")
Whistle (for the "End of Chaos")
Chaos to Order Slides
Phase 1: The Setup (3 mins)
Do not explain the point of the lesson yet!
Take the students to the gym or playground.
Place two cones at one end of the field.
Hold the ball and gather the students.
The Script: "Today, we are going to play a game. Your only goal is to get this ball between those two cones. If you do that, you win. There are no other rules. Ready? Go!"
Phase 2: The Chaos (5-7 mins)
Observe the following behaviors (you will use these in the debrief):
Students arguing over teams.
Students getting too physical or rough.
Confusion about boundaries.
Dominant players taking over completely.
Teacher Tip: If the game gets unsafe, blow the whistle immediately. Otherwise, let the confusion build for a few minutes so they truly feel the frustration.
Phase 3: The Gathering (10 mins)
Gather students in a circle on the floor. Use these "Inquiry Prompts" to guide them to the necessity of rules:
"Did anyone feel like they were winning?"
Expectation: Most will say no because there was no way to tell.
"Was it fair for everyone?"
Expectation: They will mention people being too fast, too pushy, or not sharing.
"How can we make this a REAL game?"
Expectation: They will start suggesting rules (teams, no hands/feet, boundaries).

The Big Question
Why do we need rules for a game to be fun?

HONESTY
Integrity Action Slides Integrity in Action
Doing the right thing when no one is watching.
The Mystery Box Challenge
"Inside this box is a secret object. One student will look inside and tell us what it is."
How do we know if they are telling the truth?
TRUST
Trust is a superpower. We build it by being honest even when it's hard.
What is Integrity?
Honesty
Telling the truth about your score, even if you didn't win.
Honor
Following the rules because you know they are right.
"It's about WHO YOU ARE, not who sees you."
The Self-Scoring Challenge
You will rotate through 4 stations. You are the referee for YOURSELF!
Mark your own scores
No teacher checking
If you miss a shot...
The Cheat
"I'll just mark down a 10. No one saw me miss anyway."
The Integrity Choice
"I missed, so I'll mark a zero. I'll try better next time!"
Which one makes you feel like a TRUE champion?

Lesson 2: What is Integrity? • Grade 2
TEACHER RESOURCE
The Challenge Setup
The purpose of these stations is not athletic performance, but moral practice . Students rotate through 4 challenges where they record their own scores. The teacher should purposefully stand at a distance or help one group while others work independently.

Rotation Time
5 Minutes per Station
STATION 1
Bean Bag Toss
Place a hula hoop 5 feet away. Toss 5 bean bags.
The Scoring:
1 Point for every bag that lands fully inside the hoop. 0 Points for bags on the edge or outside.
STATION 2
Balance Beam
Walk across a floor line or low beam 3 times.
The Scoring:
2 Points if you get across without stepping off. 0 points if your foot touches the floor even once.
STATION 3
Penalty Kick
Kick a ball into a small goal from 10 feet away. 5 tries.
The Scoring:
1 Point per goal. It must cross the line between the markers! No "do-overs" recorded as points.
STATION 4
Jumping Jacks
Do as many jumping jacks as you can in 30 seconds.
The Scoring:
1 Point for every full rep (arms touch at top, legs wide). "Lazy" jacks don't count!
The Integrity Debrief
"I wasn't watching your scores. Only YOU know if you were honest today."
Q1
"Was anyone tempted to add a few points to their score? How did that feeling feel in your stomach?"
Q2
"Why is it MORE impressive to record a low honest score than a high fake score?"

Use "The Solution" if...
You both honestly think you are right.
No one else saw what happened.
It's a small problem (out of bounds, whose ball).
Find an Adult if...
Someone is hurt.
Someone is being mean or bullying.
It's a "Big Problem" that feels unsafe.
