The 15-Minute Signature Mark Challenge
One simple mark. Endless possibilities. Express who you are through pure visual rhythm.
15 MINUTES
Artist Name:
Period / Block:
Date:
✦
Your Studio Mission: Fill an entire sheet of paper using only one mark or shape over and over again. You cannot change your mark, but you can change its size and direction to create dynamic patterns, deep shadows, and open airy spaces that reflect your personality and energy today.
Change These Two:
1. Size: Giant, medium, or tiny dot/line.
2. Direction: Spin, tilt, flip, or diagonal.
Strictly Off-Limits:
• No adding other marks (stay loyal to your 1 mark).
• No smudging with fingers or blending stumps.
How to Make Light & Dark:
• Dark areas: Cluster marks super close together.
• Light areas: Spread them far apart with room to breathe.
Your 15-Minute Game Plan
Follow the Studio Clock
0:00–2:00
Step 1: Discover & Choose Your Mark. Doodle 3 quick marks in your sketchbook (e.g. sharp slash, soft loop, jagged zig-zag, droplet, crescent). Pick the one mark that feels most like your mood right now and lock it in.
2:00–12:00
Step 2: Enter The Flow State. Get drawing and don't stop! Repeat your mark across the sheet. Vary size from tiny details to bold focal points. Rotate angles so your eye travels across waves, storms, or calm currents.
12:00–15:00
Step 3: Cover The Edges & Unify. Step back 3 feet. Are there empty accidental holes? Push your marks all the way off the edges of the paper so the pattern feels infinite, alive, and finished.
Your Chosen Mark
Draw your chosen single mark in this box before starting the timer:
"Once drawn, this is your only tool for the next 15 minutes!"
Artist Reflection: What Does Your Pattern Say About You?
Complete right after the 15-minute timer finishes
1. Title Your Piece:
2. What is the "Vibe" of your pattern? (Circle 2–3 words)
Calm Fierce Chaotic Flowing Electric Orderly
3. Self-Expression & Identity Connection:
Look at your page. How does the speed, direction, or rhythm of your mark reflect your personality, thoughts, or headspace today?
