Splish Splash Lesson Guide
Circle Time Lesson Plan
Splish Splash Safety 🫧
Designed for Toddlers (Ages 2–3) • Duration: 15 Minutes
Fall Prevention
Theme: Water & Slippery Floors
Learning Adventure Goals
Children learn to identify wet (slippery) vs. dry bathroom surfaces, practice walking with slow "penguin feet" near water, and understand that bath mats are our "safety islands."
Step-by-Step Lesson Flow
1
Gather & Wiggle (3 Mins)
Sing a welcome song. Have children touch their knees and wiggle toes. Introduce Splashy the Duck (use a toy if available). Ask: "Does Splashy run when he gets wet? No, he waddles nicely!"
2
Sensory Show & Tell (4 Mins)
Pass around a dry towel and a damp sponge. Let them touch both. Explain: "Dry is cozy and safe! Wet is slippery like ice!" Show a miniature bath mat and say, "Our feet belong on the cozy mat!"
3
Movement Game: "Penguin Steps" (5 Mins)
Lay down colored paper circles ("islands") or a non-slip bath mat on the carpet. Play soft music. When music plays, toddlers walk slow like waddling penguins. When music stops, they must freeze on an "island" (safe mat)!
4
The Safety Seal (3 Mins)
Demonstrate the "Safety Seal of Approval" (crossing arms and nodding). Chant the Splish Splash Rhyme together to seal the promise. Pass out coloring pages as a graduation activity!
High-Impact Verbal Prompts
- 🗣️ "Freeze like ice! Let's dry up nice!" (When someone starts to slip or run)
- 🗣️ "Where do happy toes go? On the rug, nice and slow!"
Setup Gear
- A friendly rubber ducky
- 1 dry towel + 1 damp sponge
- Real non-slip bath mat
- Tape/spots for floor mats
- "Step Safe" Coloring Pages
- "Super Stepper" charts
Catchy Chant
"Splish, splash,
no falls today!"
"We dry our feet,
And then we play!
One step, two steps,
On the mat we stay!"
Teach with hand claps! 👏
Toddler Tips
Keep lessons interactive. Toddlers learn through sensory play! If a toddler starts running, guide them back onto the bath mat "island" rather than saying "Don't run."
Parent Partnership Note
Send home the Super Stepper Helper Chart. Ask parents to hang it near the bath to reinforce safe steps!
