Activity Deep Dive
The Prevention Blueprint
Challenge students to think like "School Safety Architects." Instead of general advice (e.g., "be nice"), they must propose a systemic change:
Structural: Changing how a space is monitored or used.
Social: Creating a "Safe Zone" program or peer-mediation group.
Digital: Proposing a specific "Report Button" or awareness campaign for a popular app.
Role-Play: The 4 D's Method
DIRECT "That's not cool. Stop."
DISTRACT "Hey, did you see the game last night?"
DELEGATE "I'm going to tell the coach what happened."
DELAY "I saw that earlier. Are you okay?" (Check in later)
Support & Extension
For Struggling Learners
Provide a "Prevention Menu" with 5-6 pre-written ideas they can choose and adapt for their Blueprint.
Pair them with "Action-Oriented" peers during role-play to build confidence.
For Advanced Learners
Analyze the "Bystander Effect" through the lens of social psychology (Diffusion of Responsibility).
Ask them to draft a formal letter to the school board based on their Blueprint.
Teacher Tip
Avoid "forced apologies" during role-play. Focus on the Upstander's action rather than the bully's reform. The goal is to show the community that the behavior is not tolerated, which changes the social math for the bully.
