Use these French possessive adjectives to show ownership. Remember: In French, the adjective agrees with the noun being possessed (its gender and number), not the person who owns it!

Special Pronunciation Rule
Before a noun starting with a vowel or mute h , always use the masculine form (mon, ton, son) even if the noun is feminine. This prevents awkward pauses between vowels!

Remediation Tips
Agreement Focus
Remind students that the possessive adjective matches the noun it modifies , not the speaker. For example, a boy says "ma mère" because "mère" is feminine.
Phonetic Rule
Check specifically for the vowel rule. If a student wrote "ma amie", correct it to "mon amie" and explain the liaison rule to prevent vowel clashing.
