MISSION CONTROL:
DIGITAL WELLNESS
Investigating the hidden impact of social media on our minds.
STATUS: ACTIVE INVESTIGATION
The Social Mirror
The Highlight Reel
Social media shows the best 1% of people's lives. We compare our "behind-the-scenes" to their "greatest hits."
Filter Fatigue
Editing tools change how we see ourselves. Constant "perfection" can make real life feel disappointing.
"Is what we see always the truth?"
The Dopamine Loop
The Trigger
A like, a comment, or a notification sparks a chemical reward in our brain.
The Scroll
Infinite scroll keeps us looking for the next "hit" of dopamine.
The Crash
When we put the phone down, we feel bored or anxious, wanting more.
FOMO vs. JOMO
FOMO
Fear Of Missing Out
The anxiety that others are having fun without you. It leads to obsessive checking and feeling left out.
JOMO
Joy Of Missing Out
The peace of being present in the moment. Choosing to disconnect and enjoy offline activities without worry.

Final Intelligence Report
1. Which station surprised you the most? Why was that finding important?
2. What is one specific "digital habit" you will change this week? How will it help your mental health?
3. In your own words, explain how social media can sometimes be like a "highlight reel."
Case File Task Cards 01
The Midnight Scroll
It's 11:30 PM. You're scrolling in the dark. Your brain thinks it's daytime because of the blue light from your screen.
Detective Prompt:
How does this affect your sleep and energy for school tomorrow?
02
Silent Service
Habit: You've turned off non-human notifications. Your phone only buzzes for real people, not for "likes" or app alerts.
Detective Prompt:
Does this give you more or less control over your focus?
03
Highlight Reel
Fact: Studies show teens feel their lives are boring compared to social media. We compare our "behind-the-scenes" to their "greatest hits."
Detective Prompt:
Why is comparing ourselves to an "edit" dangerous?
04
The FOMO Trap
Scenario: You see classmates at the movies on their stories. You weren't invited. Your stomach drops and you keep checking your phone for updates.
Detective Prompt:
Does checking the phone make you feel better or worse?
05
Digital Detox
Habit: Everyone puts their phone in the center of the table during lunch. The first person to touch theirs tells a funny story to the group.
Detective Prompt:
How does this change your friendship connections?
06
The Mean Comment
Scenario: Someone posts a rude comment on your photo. Instead of fighting back, you Block them and talk to an adult.
Detective Prompt:
Why is "ignoring" often more powerful than "arguing"?
07
Dopamine Hit
Fact: Getting a "like" releases Dopamine in your brain. It feels good for a second, but then your brain immediately wants more.
Detective Prompt:
Can relying on "likes" hurt our self-esteem?
08
Screen Time Check
Habit: You set a 30-minute daily limit for your favorite app. When the timer goes off, you go outside or play a physical game.
Detective Prompt:
How does a "limit" help you enjoy the time more?
09
The Joy of JOMO
Habit: You leave your phone at home for a walk. You realize you feel relaxed and actually see the world around you.
Detective Prompt:
What is one thing you notice when you "disconnect"?
10
Filters vs. Reality
Fact: Many influencers use filters that change their facial structure. It's not a real human face.
