Balloon Keep-Up Challenge
Equipment 1-2 Latex/Foam Balloons
Primary Mission
Keep the balloon aloft together as a team without catching or holding it!
5 Progressive Rounds
Rule 1: No Catching
Tap, strike, or bump only.
Rule 2: Full Rotation
All teammates must touch it.
Rule 3: Keep Off Floor
Reset count if balloon lands.

30-Second Rally
Timed Control
Keep the balloon continuously airborne for 30 consecutive seconds. Count touches aloud!

Team Tap Sequence
Roster Rotation
Every single member must touch the balloon once in order before anyone touches it a second time.

Squat & Volley
Active Fitness
Perform 1 full squat (or chair sit-to-stand/seated knee raise) immediately before touching the balloon.

Body Control
No hands or forearms! Volley with head, shoulders, chest, knees, or feet only.

Team Transit
Travel together across the room from Line A to Line B while maintaining full balloon flight.
Universal Mobility & Accessibility Adaptations

Standing free mobility; full squats; dynamic lunges or sidesteps to reach balloon.
Supported / Low-Impact
Chair-assisted partial squat; keep one hand on wall or chair rail; reach without jumping.
Seated / Wheelchair
Seated torso twist & reach; seated double-leg lift in place of squat; pool noodle extension.
Life Skills Focus: Call teammates' names aloud, make clear eye contact before passing, and give positive affirmations after each rally!

1. Team March (60s) Rhythm
March in synchrony. Seated: Alternating seated knee drives with arm pumps.
2. Squat Tally (60s) Strength
Total team squat count! Seated: Chair sit-to-stands or seated press-ups.
3. Balloon Scramble Reaction
Drop balloon mid-course; team must keep it up without breaking formation.
4. Memory Pattern Cognitive
Clap → Knee Lift → Squat → Cross Punch. Repeat sequence 3x together.
5. 10-Second Dance Creativity
Team has 60s to invent a 10s synchronized celebration dance routine.
6. Balance Hold Stability
Stand on one leg (or tandem stance / seated single-leg hover) for maximum time.

Activity 1: Balloon Keep-Up Facilitator Coaching Cues
Rounds 1-2:
Focus on voice projection. Prompt teams: "Call out your teammate's name before you pass the balloon so they know it's coming!"
Round 3:
Squat discipline: Ensure participants perform the squat with chest upright and knees tracking over toes before touching. Remind seated learners to perform double knee-lifts.
Round 4:
No-hands challenge triggers great laughter! Encourage creative body surfaces: head nods, shoulder bumps, chest pops, and gentle knee kicks.
Round 5:
Transit across the gym: Pair faster movers alongside seated or supported peers to ensure the whole team travels as a unified cluster.
Safety & Floor Management
Clear all stray gym bags and water bottles from traversal lanes. Position sturdy armless chairs at the perimeter for participants using supported or seated tiers. Keep extra inflated balloons ready at the facilitator table.

Hold green sign high. Encourage controlled forward walking or wheeling. No reckless sprinting.
🟡 "YELLOW LIGHT!"
Hold yellow sign. Exaggerated slow-motion strides. Great for balance, quad control, and laughter.
🔴 "RED LIGHT - FREEZE!"
Hold red sign and blow short whistle. Total body freeze. Anyone who stumbles takes 2 steps back.
