Differentiate between legal, prescription, and illicit substances based on origin and regulation.

Ensure students know all props are safe and do not represent real illicit drugs.
Facilitation Steps

The Setup
Place three mystery boxes at the front of the room. Label them Subject Alpha , Subject Beta , and Subject Gamma . Each box contains a white powder or pill (prop) and a sealed envelope containing a "Origin Report."

The Inspection
Have a volunteer from each group come up and read the "Origin Report" for their subject.
Example: "Subject Alpha was found in a clear baggie in a basement lab. It has no ingredient list and was sold as 'energy booster' by an anonymous source."

The Classification
Ask the class to categorize each based on three criteria:
REGULATED Created in a pharmacy or food plant with oversight.
UNREGULATED No quality control; unknown purity; unknown origin.
RESTRICTED Requires a doctor's oversight for safe usage.

The Purpose
Used to treat ADHD or narcolepsy by balancing brain chemistry under medical supervision.
The Danger
Taking someone else's prescription is illegal and dangerous. It is not "cleaner" or "safer" than street drugs when used recreationally.
Prescription meds are controlled substances for a reason.
Illicit: Cocaine & Meth
Unregulated Manufacturing:
Made in "clandestine" (hidden) labs.
No hygiene standards or safety checks.
Often contains toxic byproducts: battery acid, drain cleaner, or gasoline traces.
The Contamination Trap
Because street drugs have no oversight, they are often "cut" with other substances to save money.
Today's biggest risk: Fentanyl contamination in illicit stimulants.
