Unit Objectives

Pacing Guide (4 Weeks)
Week 1
Reveal & Immersion
Teacher reveals the "Unannounced" script. Students do a cold read focusing on plot and immediate emotional reactions. Class discussion on first impressions.
Week 2
Dramaturgy & Deep Analysis
Focus on the playwright's context, research into the play's historical/social world, and identifying central themes. Use the Contextual Clues worksheet.
Week 3
Visual Concept Development
Translating themes into sketches. Lessons on "Ground Plans" and costume silhouette. Mood-boarding and final designs.
Week 4
Staging & Presentation
Students "block" their scene using miniatures or floor tape. Culminates in a presentation of the Portfolio and the scene pitch.
