SPARK Activity
Round 1: Right Foot Lead Curved Chaser (5 Mins) Right Captain Foot
Students gallop on curved loops in general space. Goal: pull as many tails as possible without losing your own! When you pull a tail, drop it on the floor. If your tail is taken, do 5 star jumps, retrieve a tail from the floor, and rejoin. Coach cues: "Pony gallop only—no running! Curve away from chasers!"
Round 2: Left Foot Lead "Catch & Release" (5 Mins) Left Captain Switch
Switch to Left foot leading! Students gallop wide circular arcs around the center circle. When a tail is caught, immediately hand it back (release) and say "Good job pony!" This reinforces continuous galloping movement without pauses.
Team Galloping
Place 6 colored hoops in around the black line in the gym. Line up 6 cones leading to the center of the gym from each hula hoop. Divide students into 6 hula hoop stables:
Curved Meadow Gallop On music, ponies gallop along curved pathways(around each cone) into the center meadow to collect loose tails (scarves; one at a time) and curve back to their home corner hoop! Place scarf in hula hoop.
Roundabout Rule When approaching center meadow, ponies must gallop in a circle around the center dot before picking a tail! Reinforces banking and curved turns.
| What You See (Common Error) | What to Say & Correct |
|---|---|
| Running fast instead of galloping | "Ponies gallop! Front foot stays boss—don't alternate feet like running!" |
| Holding tail with hand or lying down | "Hands free! No guarding—use your curved pony dodges to stay safe!" |
| Bumping into peers on curves | "Headlights up! Steer wide around friends into open green grass!" |
Standard Dismissal
1. Teacher Dismissal Script:
"When I say call your teacher, drop scarves in the basket, then curved-path gallop to line up behind the X by the exit. [Teacher Name]!"
Line up in assigned order. Feet still, voices off, ready for classroom teacher.
2. Reflection & Heart Rate Check:
• Hand on chest: "Feel your heart beating like pony hooves after galloping?"
• Debrief: "How did curving help you dodge someone trying to catch your tail?"

Tail Catching Stars (Galloped with Clean Curved Form):
Students Needing Extra Support (Guarding Tail / Sprinting):
Set up 4 parallel lanes of 5 zigzagged dome cones. Students gallop down the lane weaving sharply around each cone. Once around the cone, cut diagonally toward the next cone. Coach cues: "Sharp cuts! Plant, push, and gallop diagonally!" Students practice switching lead foot at each cone turn.
8 Team Stations
Teacher Court Setup:
• Divide class into 8 groups evenly spaced around the black court line.
• Place 1 hula hoop per group where they sit in a neat line.
• Line up 6–8 cones per lane in a zigzag pattern stretching from each hoop to the center court island.
• Place a large pile of beanbag/gem "treasures" in the center.
Game Focus & Objective:
• Focus: Gallop strictly along the zigzag cone lane with sharp cuts and consistent lead foot—no cutting across lanes!
• Mission: Each team works together to collect 8 treasures total into their home hoop. Once 8 treasures are collected, team sits in Ready Body and freezes!
How to Play (Rounds 1 & 2):
1. First pony gallops zigzag cone-to-cone to the island.
2. Grab 1 treasure and gallop zigzag back to home hoop.
3. Place treasure inside hoop, tag next teammate's hand.
4. Next student goes! Repeat until 8 treasures are safely home.
Dragon Twist & Consequences (Round 3+):
• Fire Dragon: Coach/Assistant becomes the Dragon guarding the island (pretend tags with pool noodle, safe distance!).
• Consequence: If Dragon tags you, you must put the treasure back and gallop zigzag back to your group empty-handed (must still weave every cone!).
Game ends when island treasure is empty. If time permits, choose a star galloper to be the Dragon!
| What You See (Common Error) | What to Say & Correct |
|---|---|
| Skipping cones / running straight down | "You must weave outside EVERY cone! Zigzag power only!" |
| Grabbing multiple treasures at once | "Only ONE treasure at a time! Share the fun with your team!" |
| Running instead of galloping back | "Ponies gallop with Captain in front even when Dragon roars!" |
Standard Dismissal
1. Teacher Dismissal Script:
"When I say call your teacher, stack your cones and hoop, then zigzag gallop to line up behind the X by the exit. [Teacher Name]!"
Line up in assigned order. Ready Body: hands by sides, voices silent.
2. Reflection & Pathway Contrast:
• "How did sharp zigzag turns help you escape the Fire Dragon?"
• Thumbs Up Check: "Thumbs up if you wove around every cone without cutting corners!"

Zigzag Agility Stars (Sharp Cuts & Balance):
Students Needing Extra Support (Rounding / Cutting Cones):
No Equipment Drills
Whole-Group Callout Progression (5 Mins) General Space
Students explore general space in the gym. Coach calls out rapid movement + pathway pairings every 45 seconds:
Gear 1: Walk Straight Follow court lines like laser beams
Gear 2: Slow Jog Curved Gentle curved arcs in open floor space
Gear 3: Zigzag Gallop Sharp diagonal cuts, Captain in front!
High-Movement Tag
Teacher Setup (Zero Prep!):
• No equipment needed! Use full gym floor boundaries.
• Pick 2–3 Safari Rangers (taggers). All other students are Safari Explorers.
• Switch taggers every 2–3 minutes so everyone gets a turn.
Game Focus & Objective:
• Focus: Continuous movement while shifting between walking, slow jogging, and galloping along strict pathways!
• Mission: Explorers dodge taggers using the called pathway. Stay unfrozen and rescue friends!
Pathway Rounds (Coach Calls):
• Round 1 (Straight Walk): Everyone must WALK strictly along straight lines! Taggers also walk.
• Round 2 (Curved Jog): SLOW RUNNING in curving circles and arcs. No sharp cuts!
• Round 3 (Zigzag Gallop): GALLOPING ONLY with sharp zigzag dodges! Peak energy!
Tag Consequence & "Thaw" Rescue:
• Tagged Consequence: Freeze like an ice statue in "Ready Body" posture (hands on hips, feet still).
• Rescue Rule (Continuous Play): A free friend gallops a quick circle around you and gives an "Air High-Five" to unfreeze you! No student sits out.
| What You See (Common Error) | What to Say & Correct |
|---|---|
| Running full speed during walking round | "Walking gear only! Heel-to-toe like giant safari guards!" |
| Running straight instead of zigzag galloping | "Zigzag dodge! Cut diagonal so the tagger can't predict you!" |
| Pushing or rough tagging | "Two-finger butterfly tag on the shoulder! Gentle and safe." |
Standard Dismissal
1. Instant Reflection Circle:
• No equipment to clean! Sit directly in Ready Body.
• "Which pathway was easiest to escape on: straight, curved, or zigzag?"
• "How did slow running feel compared to galloping?"
2. Dismissal Script & Thumbs Up Check:
"When I say call your teacher, choose your favorite pathway and gallop to line up behind the X by the exit. [Teacher Name]!"
• Thumbs Up: "Thumbs up if you rescued a friend today!"

Movement Masters (Smooth Gear & Pathway Shifts):
Students Needing Pacing Support (Sprint Fatigue / Bubble Space):
Zone 1 (Straight): Gallop down gym sideline with noodle held high. Zone 2 (Curved): Gallop circular loops around center circle and corner hoops. Zone 3 (Zigzag): Slalom weave through dome cones with sharp pivot pushes. Students complete all 3 zones in sequence!
Coach Whistle Speed Shifts (5 Mins) Auditory Cues
During the course: 1 Whistle = Slow-motion floating gallop (precision). 2 Whistles = Swift cruising gallop (speed). "Rodeo Freeze!" = Instant statue balance check. Test foot consistency under varying speeds!
All-Class Game
All students tuck a scarf tail in their side. 3 students are selected as "Rodeo Wranglers":
Pathway Change on Demand Coach shouts pathway callouts during play: "Straight trails only!", "Curve around hoops!", or "Zigzag dodge!" Mustangs must adapt instantly!
Catch & Release Rodeo When a tail is taken, wranglers immediately return it with a high five! Ponies gallop without interruption for maximum aerobic benefit.
| What You See (Common Error) | What to Say & Correct |
|---|---|
| Speeding up causes running gait | "Fast hooves still gallop! Don't let your back foot pass Captain!" |
| Tunnel vision / bumping peers | "Turn your radar on! Find open green floor space to gallop into!" |
| Crashing at course transition zones | "Leave 2 pony lengths between you and the pony ahead of you!" |
Standard Dismissal
1. Teacher Dismissal Script:
"When I say call your teacher, put scarves in bin, then favorite pathway gallop to line up behind the X by the exit. [Teacher Name]!"
Line up in assigned order. Ready Body: hands by sides, voices silent.
2. Weekly Unit Celebration & Debrief:
• "Who can name all 3 pathways we mastered this week?" (Straight, Curved, Zigzag!)
• Thumbs Up Check: "Thumbs up if you are a certified Master Pony Galloper!"
