Synced dual running
Tactical Layout
Court Zones & Starting Setup
Full Court Relay
1
Home Base (Baseline)
Squad lines up single-file behind baseline
Lead runner holds 1 hula hoop ready to deploy
Returned teammates wait safely in the squad box
2
Rescue Zone (Far Baseline)
Remaining teammates wait in line
Wait behind the marker line until the hoop drops
Only ONE teammate is rescued per trip
Coach Golden Rule: Both runners must remain inside or holding the hoop together during the return sprint!
Step-by-Step Flow
How the Rescue Chain Works
Continuous Relay
Phase 1: Sprint Out
Deploy the Hoop
Rescuer sprints across the floor carrying the hoop. Keep eyes up and navigate around other team lanes safely.
Phase 2: The Capture
Secure Teammate
Gently lower hoop over next teammate or both hold sides. Match stride speed before accelerating back home.
Phase 3: The Handoff
Pass the Torch
Cross baseline! The rescued player instantly grabs the hoop and becomes the new rescuer heading out!
No throwing the hoop
Scan lane before launching
Finish when all are home
Post-Mission Debrief
Squad Tactical Reflection
5-Minute Squad Huddle
Q1
Coordination & Speed
How did you adjust your stride when running as a pair to prevent tripping or dropping the hoop?
Q2
Relay Transition Efficiency
Where was your team losing the most seconds: during the sprint or during the hoop handoff?
Q3
Next Round Strategy
What verbal cues (e.g., "Ready, Run!", "Left foot!") will your squad implement for tomorrow?
Key Takeaway: Speed wins sprints, but communication and seamless transitions win team relays!

Show, Don't Just Tell: Walk the lane holding hoop at hip height.
Model the Capture: Show gentle drop over shoulders—never fling.
Demonstrate Stride Match: Run alongside a student volunteer.
Show Clean Handoff: Stop before crossing, transfer hoop firmly.
Shout-Out Coaching Cues
"Match Your Motor!"
Adjust speed to match your partner so nobody trips.
"Eyes on the Lane!"
Prevents runners drifting into neighbor squad lanes.
"Handoff at the Line!"
New rescuer must secure grip before sprinting forward.
Pro Tip: Place contrasting floor cones down each squad lane to prevent lateral drift during intense relay sprints.
Adaptive Curriculum
Tiered Modifications
Differentiated PE
Support (Level 1)
Shortened Court & Grip
• Shorten sprint distance to half-court volleyball line.
• Instead of stepping inside hoop, partners hold opposite edges of the ring.
• Allow brisk speed-walking instead of sprinting.
Focus: Spatial comfort & rhythm
Standard (Level 2)
Full Gym Relay
• Baseline to baseline full court sprints.
• Rescuer lowers hoop overhead; partner steps in.
• Both run in sync within the perimeter of the hoop.
Focus: Maximum aerobic coordination
Extension (Level 3)
Double Escort / Slalom

Playbook Regulations
Code Rules of the Grid
One Runner Rule
Scenario A: IT MATCHES!
1. Lift cone, reveal YOUR team's color bag.
2. Take the beanbag, leave the empty cone in place.
3. Sprint back and drop beanbag into your squad's Home Bucket.
4. High-five next runner to launch!
Scenario B: MISMATCH!
1. Lift cone, reveal a DIFFERENT color bag.
2. Replace cone immediately over the beanbag.
3. Return to baseline completely empty-handed.
4. Whisper or signal what you found to your squad!
🚫 Never kick or slide cones 🚫 Only 1 cone checked per sprint 🚫 Stay behind baseline until tagged
Tactical debrief
Memory & Strategy Debrief
Squad Strategy Huddle
1
Memory Retention Tactics
How did your team keep track of cones that had already been checked so you didn't waste sprints checking empty spots?
2
Communication Discipline
Did shouting clues help your squad, or did it accidentally tip off opponent teams about where their colors were hidden?
3
Grid Division Strategy
What happened if your squad assigned different quadrants (front, middle, back) to specific runners?
Key Takeaway: Physical speed gets you to the cone, but shared memory and intelligence win the game!

4-Step Teacher Demonstration
Approach & Decelerate: Show controlled breakdown feet before reaching cone.
Two-Hand Vertical Lift: Lift straight up—never kick or slide the cone.
Model the Mismatch: Peek, lower cone directly back down over beanbag.
Model the Match: Snatch bag, leave cone standing upright, sprint home.
Sideline Coaching Cues
"Peek and Cover!"
Keep beanbag completely hidden if it's not your color.
"Whisper, Don't Broadcast!"
Share coordinates quietly with your team, not the whole gym.
"Scan Before You Sprint!"
Target a specific untouched cone before crossing the line.
Coaching Insight: Praise teams who use hand signals (e.g. holding up 2 fingers for quadrant 2) to demonstrate tactical communication.
Adaptive Curriculum
Differentiation & Scaffolding
Game Variants
Support (Level 1)
Reduced Grid & Pairs
• Use 12 cones with only 2 competing color teams.
• Pair runners up to search together for mutual memory support.
• Cones placed closer to squad baseline.
Reduces cognitive overwhelm
Standard (Level 2)
24 Cones / 4 Teams
• Full randomized layout (6 beanbags per team).
• One active runner per team simultaneously on floor.

Corner Squad Nests
Point Zone Hoop: 1 flat hoop on the gym floor in each corner.
Runner's Baton: 1 handheld hoop held while venturing out.
Squad Line: Teammates cheer behind the corner boundary line.
The Center Ball Cache
Center basketball circle loaded with soccer, foam, and playground balls.
Runners enter the circle, claim ONE ball with their foot, and start dribbling.
Once the center cache is emptied, final scoring begins!
Official Relay Baton: The handheld hoop serves as your runner pass. You cannot touch or dribble a ball without it!
Rules of Engagement
Code Rules & Dribble Protocols
Zero Hands Rule
Rule 1
Feet Only!
No hands allowed on the ball at any time. Use the inside, outside, and sole of your shoe to maneuver the ball.
Rule 2
One Ball Limit
Runners may only dribble ONE ball per turn. Never kick two balls or shepherd multiple balls simultaneously.
Rule 3
Nest the Ball
Ball must come to rest completely inside your floor Point Zone hoop before handing off the baton hoop to teammate.
⚽ Soft control taps over big wild kicks 🛑 Hand ball penalty = return ball to center 🤝 Smooth hoop transfer at the corner
Post-Mission Debrief
Corner Strategy Reflection
Unit Final Huddle
1
Control vs Acceleration
Did kicking the ball hard and chasing it work better, or did keeping it close with soft taps get it into the hoop faster?
2
Stopping at the Point Zone
How did you trap the ball so it didn't bounce right out of your floor hoop nest?
3

Sideline Cues
4-Step Teacher Demo
Hoop Baton Grip: Hold handheld hoop at chest level while running.
Claiming the Ball: Place sole of shoe gently on ball to secure ownership.
Short Leash Dribble: Demonstrate inside-of-foot baby taps (1-2 ft away).
Nest Stop: Trap ball dead inside the flat hoop before handoff.
Shout-Out Coaching Cues
"Keep It on a Short Leash!"
Keeps the ball within arm's reach instead of kicking it away.
"Sole on Top to Stop!"
Cues students to use bottom of foot to trap ball inside hoop nest.
"Heads Up in the Hub!"
Alerts runners approaching the busy center circle together.
Coaching Key: Remind students that chasing a wild kick takes 3 times longer than a controlled rhythmic dribble.
Adaptive Curriculum
Modifications & Game Variants
